Track rod ends

Postby CJ » Sun Nov 14, 2004 2:59 pm

I've noticed quite a bit of play in both track rod ends, can someone remind me if you should be able rotate them side-to-side by hand when unworn?

Guys, if the track rod ends are worn, and need replacing. What is the symptom? How would you recognise this by driving the car? Any tell tale signs?

You'll get a knocking noise over bumps and when braking at low speeds, you can replicate the sound by turning the wheel left to right when parked.

Thanks for the reply CJ. But in addition to the knocking noise, do worn track rod ends affect the driving dynamics -steering/ handling, etc?

The steering would be bumpy you'd notice it on roundabouts and long turns.

Big wheels on cars not able for them seem to cause it a lot
