Just got my FTO replacement

Postby mark » Mon May 19, 2008 5:36 pm

Well I finally bit the bullet and bought an RX7
http://picasaweb.google.com/MarkRussell ... 3515583458
sorry about the pics as I lashed them off in a hurry. It's a 1999 Type R or RS, still not sure! 280bhp model only in from Japan a couple of years. I searched high and low for one in good condition but had trouble finding one that was relatively unmolested. Totally different driving experience from the FTO, speeds bumps and driveways are a slight pain and it gets HOT inside beside the gearbox tunnel.
Gets lots of attention and young boys seem to love it and bmw drivers look begrudgingly at it! My girlfriend didn't like it initially as her neck was sore after a ride in it  but she's coming around :)
Great performance, first turbo kicks in at 1800rpms and then 2nd at 4500, need to hold on, great fun, doesn't like traffic, who does? Cheers for the rx7 info CJ, Hopefully i'll tag along to the next FTO meet if it's in Dublin!

WAU - tasty looking example.. I think I saw this on the n2 a couple of weeks back - was it a local(ish) car to the area?

Congratulations & Well wear.

Cheers, pics don't do it justice to be truthful. Yeah I bought it from a guy in Trim and I he used it the odd time to work in Blanch. He put about 3000kms on it over a year, only used it at weekends and really looked after it.

Yeah, liked it a lot in black but many I looked at were tatty, they only started with the blue ones in 98 and I have to say I much prefere the blue now, not many around and maybe a little easier to keep clean as well?!Not sure if I'm around in June for the meet unfortunately.

Very nice Mark. I thought I'd own one of these some day but just never happened. They are a fabulous car to look at and to drive.

Try and get it to the meet in September if you're not gonna make the next one.

Congatulations Mark, glad your search has come to an end and that you picked up a fantastic looking car to boot. I've seen this car in the flesh and its a cracking machine to look at. You did the right thing going for a 99 spec model, its a nicer spec model, and has more power than previous models. Once you go rotary, its tough to go back! Looking forward to the test drive ;)

MARK!!! I saw you on Saturday mate! Pulling into the estate. I didn't realise it was you, but myself and my mate commented how clean the car was, and we recognised it as new to the town. The colour is just gorgeous in the flesh. Car looks spotless. ;) I'll have to take a few spy shots next time I see you floating around the town :P

:D Thanks all, I have to say the blue really stands out in the sun, even my parents like it. Like all 'used' cars there's always a few thingys to do to make it your own. Couple of glitches on the body but good for a 9 year old car or maybe I'm not as fussy in my old age... Yeah CJ, I just wanted something a little newer from the 95 FTO, ideally a 2003 model would have been good but as you know there's no difference from the 98 onwards other than year so I'm happy.
