Altessza RS 200

Postby MadMax » Thu Feb 23, 2006 10:49 pm

I’ve had the FTO for nearly 3 and half years and with the recent arrival of my second child the FTO days are numbered. I’m interested in an Altessza RS 200, 200 bhp or the 6 speed manual 210 bhp, does anyone have any good advice. Skylines interest me but a 2.6 Turbo has fairly high running cost.
Has the real value gone out of the Japanese import market?
Irish Luxus IS 200 (160 bhp) 1999 €14500
Altessza RS 200 (200+ bhp) 1998 €17500
I’m looking for a powerful (200 bhp+) AWD car with four doors but I’ll settle with RWD or FWD at a reasonable price, coupes aren’t ruled out, but I need a large back seat e.g. Skyline, any advice is welcome. My wife doesn’t like Scooby’s or Evo’s and I like a quite life.

The Altezza has a Beams tuned version of Toyota's 3s-ge engine. If you're really lucky you could find an Altezza T280 which has a 3s-gte engine tuned to 280bhp by TOM's of Japan.....that one would be interesting :D

I really like the S4 - I thought they were turbo'd too - 2.7lt and 4wd plus audi build - mmmmmmm, and all for only 18k - makes TT's and S3's look way over priced.

But it also makes your mates GPX look like killer value ;)

To answer my own question - they're bi-turbo and around 290bhp.... nice :D

I think an S4 will be by next car, I would love a car slightly more roomy and practical that the FTO,but I also want more power. An M3 would be nice but out of budget (and do I really want a BMW, as so many people have nowadays?) . The 2.7 S4 seems to have the performance almost up there with the m3 (the 320hp version, not the 343).
Also visually, I think there is something special about the subtle S4 badge. I was overtaken by one on a few weeks ago, thinking it was just an A4, until I made out the badge ( and noted the dual exhaust and 18's) and realised it deserved a bit more respect -I was going to chase him!
Great review here

Must be a split topic on the S4 by now, apologies!
Anyone know if there is much potential in the engine for more power? Quattro AWD could handle whatever you gave it Im sure.......

Serious tuning potential from the 2.7 V6 biTurbo - exhaust, breathing and mapping mods alone should see 400bhp +. Not sure how the chassis would handle that though. Wouldn't be all that expensive to see 400BHP - and that should be more than enough for anyone driving Irish roads.
