Rear brake piston

Postby CJ » Wed Jul 28, 2004 8:05 pm

I replaced the rear pads today, it look me 15mins to wind back one of the pistons but only a minute or so to do the other one. Both sets of pads where worn equally. The caliper that took ages has beem giving off a clunking noise on braking, I havn't noticed anything since changing the pads. Is it possible the threads are worn on one piston housing?

What pads did you use. How much did you pay. I have a very uneven bedding on my rear discs i need to change the pads but i think the pistons may be seized.

Garlaf, I got a set of standard rear pads from Camskill for £18.50:

When you are replacing the rear pads be sure that the one of the slots on either side of the piston fit over the little pin on the pad, otherwise the pads will waer very unevenly and brakes will not be 100%

Pads for the rear are same as EVO 3 so any factors will have them.

I had this problem when i replaced the pads the first time.

As regards the caliper I think it is normal for one to be stiffer than the other, you could test them with the pads out and get someone to pump the pedal

Hmm, I ended up cutting the nipple off one of the pads with a hacksaw as I couldn't get the caliper to fit properly, now I know that the piston was not aligned properly :?
