rev counter suddenly stopped working

Hi guys..as title suggests.since jump starting my brothers car with the fto it apears it has killed the rev counter on both the cluster and the apexi neo.have checked for loose connections at all ends but nothing apears to be a miss. I have read that the ignition failure sensor is the usual suspect here and it was rather unusual for the ignition timer on the car also did not work after the jump,this would lead me also to believe ignition sensor but.if it was ifs I thought I would see eratic jumping of the dial before failure?
