Lost my "FAVOURITES" bar

I downloaded some updates from Microsoft. And once they were installled I did not restart thePC for a few days. Now when I rebooted IE has resorted back to IE7 and all of the links in favourites bar are missing. There is not even the option of a favourites bar. Is there any way to recouver this as I had a lot of important links save in there. I have tried restore to no avail.

Have you tried using system restore? Pick a date before the problem occurred.

Are your bookmarks listed in the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Favorites folder perhaps?

If your favourites folder is emply then they're gone, but I can't see how an update made them gone.

CJ i found a folder called "LINKS" in C:\Documents and Settings\RORY O\Favorites\Links, all the items i had in my favourites bar are in there. But I no longer have the option to add to "FAVOURITES BAR" in IE. Must have been part of IE 8. I cannot understand how an update caused it to resort back to IE7, i have been using 8 for ages.

Managed to get the links back while I was typing this so all seems good now. Going to update to IE 8 again and see what happens!!!

Download the installer and install it fresh. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx

Sorted. Downloaded updates and saved all links again. All good now thanks for the help.
