Has anyone renewed their insurance recently?

Got the policy through Munster Group and the underwriter for this year is Patrona (Last years was Zenith Insurance plc/Octane Underwriting) wasn't able to get anywhere cheaper fully comprehensive cover - third party fire and theft policies were €1400 - €1500
It's getting really hard to insure them as a main car. Most brokers that I called cut across to not waste time when I mentioned the car - that they will either not be able to cover or go anywhere near my renewal quote.
Think I might have to do some man maths and explore the options of having other car as daily for next year (harder now as it will have to be new enough to get competitive quote).
For reference I'm 35, have 0 penalty points, and 9 years NCB...
