Toyota Caldina GT-T

Postby gary d » Tue May 26, 2009 9:45 pm

Spotted a Toyota Caldina for the first time yesterday evening. When the guy stopped at the KFC across the road from the Extravision I was goin to I had to run across the road an ask him about him about it. Him an his mate looked at me like I had 3 heads, managed to get out of him that it was a JDM Avensis it was a GT-T = 2.0 turbo 4WD estate. looks a little like a Legacy with it's bonnet scoop. think I may have found my ideal family car  bit more exclusive than an Impreza wagon wrx, and good Legacy wagons are gettin hard to find. Just have to wait for the pound to recover against the yen

It's whats under the hood and the drivetrain that impressed me. besides the one I saw had a few subtle mods i.e stainless exhaust, lowered and white 17" jap rims. the quirkiness appeals

Bit new for my liking, but yeah a tidy looking machine allright. Would be serious wedge to import one of those to the republic at the mo surely?

yup, VRT is 36%, VAT 21.5% and import duty 10%, that's before you take the crap exchange rate into account.

you'll get a 2004 GTT for 13k over there, that's about 14k shipped, 1400 import duty, brings it to 15400, then there's VAT which is another 3300, which brings it to 18700. VRT is another 4k, so it'd end up costing 22700 before you put new tyres, alarm, proper stereo and a full service.

Sheesh indeed.

2004 is new shape by the way.

there's a 99 one here for 2164
Image, shipping, 500 quid. 2664, 266 duty, VAT brings it to 3559
VRT is another 821, so you're done at 4380 euro.
Which is a lot for a 99 Avensis estate.... but what an Avensis!

you'd easily make the money back in the snowy season.

£22,700 for an 04 Toyota. Raped I think would be a suitable term.

I like that black one, and I'm in the north so no vrt

If you're in the market for a sub 6 second 0-60 sports estate, don't discount the Legnum VR4 if power and handling are your main considerations. I'm sure Muad can attest to the same. You can pick one up for a LOT less than a Caldina GT.
