There's a guy in douglas I got a timing belt and an other few bits done by a few weeks ago. He specialises in performance cars and says he's done work on other FTO's before, anyway I found him quite good and fairly reasonable (might be worth a go). His name is

Jace, have a good read thru the topics on the NCT forum, there are plenty of tips in there on what to look out for. Emmission may be an issue, make sure you give the car a good spin before heading in for the NCT, the parking brake can sometimes be a problem, you can tighen it up with a small spanner, remove the cup holder and you'll see what I mean.

Tappety noise - just when its cold or all the time?

The only thing my FTO has failed on is the front anti roll bar bushes and droplinks, a fairly common thing to go on ~95s from what I can see.

There isn't anything else that I've come across that is a common FTO failure anyway.
