Help me (if this isnt resolved i may have to sell my FTO)

Guys Im currently on my mothers insurance,
with FBD
coming to the end of last year i had a small tip and resolved it by paying the other party in CASH,
as my mother had 5 years NCB and we didnt want to loose it.

The other party originally went to claim through the insurance but we payed her cash so that was resolved.

But apperently FBD has revoked her NCB as they say
they had to pay four hundred to investigate the accident,
and they climed off her insurance for it.
1st off,
Nobody called out to see my car/the other parts car,
2nd off,
They didnt pay out any money,
3rdly,
id be happy even to pay this four hundred euros myself if it meant reinstating her NCB.

As my insurance is going to jack up to 3896 euro.

Should i be able to pay this 400 euro for the investigation which consisted of about 4 phone calls.

ok,

firstly, YES!!! you should offer to pay FBD their 400 in costs as it was never your intention to handle this via insurance. Whether they agree or not is another thing. (let us know).

Next, you should look into paying the xtra money to protect your NCB. It's only a small extra on a fully comp policy.

Next, I am of the opinion you should never really hand over cash to the other party. If you crash into a wall and wanna pay for it yourself to fix your car, thats fine, but handing over cash to another party is very dangerous territory. Imagine you pay them 1000euro to fix their bumper. they call their insurance company to explain what happened but do not make a claim etc. 2 months later they are suffering a pain in their back. they ring back their insurance company (who they have already informed of the accident 2 months ago) and they ring you for more cash etc for x-rays etc whatever. This is the reason you pay insurance. to be protected from all this sort of thing. I just pay protection and if damage someone elses car (or neck) I put it through the insurance. People in this country are too dishonest to just hand over cash to.

In saying that, a latvian firl with no insurance hit my sister head on a year ago. she was crying and begged my sister not to ring insurance. I think the latvian had no tax or insurance. I told my sister to ring the gardai and the insurance etc. she didn't. she felt bad for the girl. she took her number and sent her on her way....!!!!
strangely enough the girl actually answered the phone later and my sister got a quote for the repairs. the girl paid it 800 cash. she arrived down with her BF to the house and said if it was anymore extra they would pay it no problem. I think 9/10 the girl would not have answered her phone and my sister would have been stung.
Cynical...I am.

sounds suss to me Dan, I've had a tip in the past where I only reported it and it got sorted without going through insurance and never affected my ncb, if I were you I'd ring the insurance ombudsman to see exactly where you stand and your rights... but worst case scenario, if you pay the 400 I don't see why her NCB would not be reinstated as no claim has been made against her policy.. either way talk to the ombudsman

Nice one Dan, good to hear it's all sorted now!
Did you have to pay the 400 to get it reinstated or was the whole thing an error on their part??

Crap, only read this now, that could have turned out nasty! Glad to hear it's all sorted.

How much would your own policy cost you with your current NCB?
