It's been in the cards for a while now..

...yesterday it happened..


we got a kitten..

She's cracked and she's VERY cuddly.. seems she likes lying on my face while I try to watch telly.. she purrs like she's 6cylinder and goes like she's got the mivecs.
I don't really have ANY experience with pets having never had one, but knowing that there's a few pet peeps on here I thought I'd ask..

What's the story with Pet insurance in this country and does anybody have any recommendations?

Also I need to get kitty fixed so I don't end up with a heap of kittens at some stage, any idea what that might set me back?

any recommendations for feed, toys and stuff?

Already got her a tray, a scratchy type board, mouse on a stick, fluffy mouse and a flea collar..

I wouldn't worry about pet insurance for a cat tbh - and would advise you don't get too attached to them untill they are around a year old. Cats are impossible to keep tabs on and the chances of you loosing a cat in the first year (to the road or other animals) is very high. Once they are over their first year their survival chances increase dramatically. I've had cats all my life and the one thing you will learn is that you NEVER actually own a cat.
Is it male or female?

Well I wanted a great dane...
..settled for a kitten.. she's a she...I think..purely based on a lack of b0ll0x.

Keeping her in the house for a few weeks till she gets used to us and where the food is..then we'll let her venture out..

We're just not around enough to have a dog..cats seem to be less bored when left on their own...they either go to sleep or muck about with your shoelaces..

I would recommend it simply because cat's have 9 lives and regularly test them.

Lack of a scote doesn't necessarily mean it's a girl, it's very difficult to s3x kittens unless you have a few to compare to. Generally a : means male and a ; means female and the gap between 2 openings in males is longer.

Neutering will cost you not far off the 100 mark, bit cheaper for males.

Food: Royal canin kitten. NO WET FOOD.
Toys: anything with catnip = comedy

Make sure you get her vaccinated, and ask your chemist for parazole (wormer) and frontline (fleas) and apply yourself (cheaper than vets) and repeat every 3 months.

Kitty is busy decimating the local wildlife and bringing the leftovers inside..

HE is currently strolling about the snow clad garden with what looks like a sparrow in his gob.. I wonder is there anyway I can train him to go for Crows (hate em and we have LOADS) or rats, haven't seen any of them but we're in the schticks so they're bound to be around somewhere..



Must get the nads chopped off him one of the days..

Cats are unreal for that, thats his way of showing you his appreciation by bringing you presents. We used have loads of cats at home when I was really young, grandmother was a person who would not let a cat go homeless, and they used be bringing those little shrew things up to the door every morning. Mother used go nuts at it! Least they never brought them inside the house which was odd.

Have you been feeding the birds?
Its pretty much just like setting up a trap for the cat - luckily our TomCat is too lazy to bother with chasing birds anymore (bit like myself I suppose). They ALLWAYS bite the head off first whether its a mouse/rat or bird. Apparently they bite it off first to prevent getting bitten/pecked themselves.

Wouldnt a crow give a cat a good run for its money? Small birds is one thing but a crow can be pretty big and that beak isn't small either.
Maybe a shotgun with a 9 cartridge would be much more effective. (Or 4 if you want to really see the feathers fly!! )
