Wanted: Cigarette lighter

Postby CJ » Sat Nov 05, 2005 2:11 pm

I'm looking for a replacement cigarette lighter unit (not the lighter itself), mine is shot, I've got voltage going to the unit but no output power (I tried another lighter, no joy). Anyone?

Hi CJ,

If you can't find one in Ireland you might want to give these guys a buzz..

HMSBikes : 0044 (0) 121 556 5488

they're FTO breakers so you should be able to pick one up rather cheaply.

Hi, have u try connecting other gadget other than cigarette if it works? if yes maybe the clamp that holds the cigarette is loose try removing the small screw ot the back of the unit, when removed u can check the connection of the clamp connected to white insulator and washer plate.

I didn't actually Helen, its good of you to offer considering your situation! If its not too much trouble, I'd be happy to take the lighter unit off your car (for a fee of course). Have you sorted out the insurance yet? Have you considered buying the car off the insurance co for scrap value with a view to selling parts?

Its the cigarette lighter unit thats built into the dash and not the ligher itself if you know what mean. It will have to be removed atthe rear of the plastic gear surround.

Good idea Helen, you could always take a load of pics of the car so [people can see whats available and then stick 'em up here..

Quick reply to the original topic, I replaced the cigarette lighter unit yesterday and I now have a working lighter, if anyone has a similar problem (after verifying electrical connections), you know what to do.
