What's with the trend of people going from FTOs to Zs? Is there some link I'm missing?

Getting slightly off topic here - but essentially a Z is just an FTO with a bodykit and the seats stripped out..

Bodykit is so heavy that they've had to spec up the engine sligthly..Oh and manufacturing was outsource to Nissan..

Other than the body and the engine and most other parts the cars are exactly the same..*

(*may or may not be 100% true)

yeah I missed that one myself. The link I mean. Mind you I have friends with R33 Skyline GTR and another with an RX7 and both talk highly of the 350Z and say they would drive one. I think it was originally a replacement for the Skyline right? Meant to be luxury / looks / performance / tunability. Has it all I guess. I suppose if your into Jap cars its up there in the top 3.

Way to go! - Any preliminary pics?

I guess the Zed is the logical progression from the FTO.
Another good looking coupe, nicely specced, excellent handling with a good turn of speed.
The fact it has 280bhp+ and RWD only adds to the attraction.

Plus they are starting to fall to reasonable money - I'm seeing a LOT more Zeds on the road over the past year. There are now 5 in my area - curiously 3 of them are brand new 07's - 60K is too much to spend on a Zed IMO. I'm now having to mod mine to stand out a little - its spending next week in the bodyshop.

Have to drive down to wexford on Sunday to confirm the buy....
Will take plenty of photos and post them up when i get back.

Its a GT - Black leather / Red Stiching .... Silver... I believe you know the one i'm talking about but keep the QT until i'm secured.

What are you getting done to yours bodykit wise? I've been checking out tonnes of videos on youtube which make me want to upgrade the exhaust... Did you get yours? Insurance was a bit sticky in the end but all sorted, i actually can't wait to see her in the flesh

I've a few carbon fibre bits going on the car (Nismo front carbon splitter, carbon intake - + awaiting Nismo sideskirts and rear spoiler on order) plus debadge, sorting indicators etc

I've already fitted an RSR exhaust and as Muad,Mustang and CJ will attest to its a very LOUD with the removeable baffles out - Its just loud with the removeable baffles back in now.

Theres quite a few you-tube videos of the RSR exhaust - check them out. I believe that blueflame now also make a 350Z exhaust.

I remember standing on a mountain outside a little cafe/shop talking to mustang after Myfeckin' had taken off...I swear about 2 miutes passed and we could STILL hear it..

Great sound!

Another thing about the FTO / 350z relationship is that shape wise they're not entirely dis-similar.. a controversial point to make I know..but still..stand back ...poke yourself in the eye.. and there..presto..Instant Mitsan 3PXZ..

Test drove this bad boy today... realised a problem and trying to sort out a solution...

MyFto, Have you enquired or have any information on disabling the passenger side airbags? I found info on the web for an on / off switch but thats all in the US....

Anyone else know?

Thanks
Russ

I presume the problem you are talking about is having a baby in the passenger seat.

FROM UK ZED forum :
"Ok, airbag cannot easily be turned off and imo probably more hassle than its worth to get this done.

However, this is only a problem in a rearward facing seat (0-9mths).

After this you can use a forward facing seat in the front (9mths to 2 years ish) and a booster type seat after that (one that uses the normal belt rather than having an intergral belt/harness thing). All forward facing seats can be used in this car so long as you put the passenger seat as far back as you can. The space the airbag deploys into is then far enough away for the child not to become a problem. I've researched this and measured the distances, there is no way the airbag (front or side) can touch the child."

Hope this helps.

Another member joining the Zed fold eh?

you won't be disappointed, I have to say i love the Zed, it's a beast.

I have stayed away from the mods so far, apart from some alloys, but I do have an extensive list of things that I'm thinking about...

Nismo exhaust
V2 Kit
Carbon Fibre interior kit & Engine bits

and long term... possibly a twin turbo, one of the guys on the UK forum has just fitted one, pushing 400bhp for less than €10K....

check out www.350zownersclub.com it's a pretty decent site and there's a meet coming up in Mondello in August, the 18th i think

Ahhh that was only a single turbo!!! and i had to fit it myself!! this kit has already been fitted in the UK, so it's already proven... but it's either this or a different car in a year or two, possibly a tvr t350C or sagaris if they start dropping in price!!

V quick exotic machinery there Dave - but you'd be crazy to run either as a daily driver - they'd make the 350Z's running costs look like a push bikes. If you want more power I'd be more inclined towards supercharging or turbocharging the Zed - but for me (for the moment at least) I can't imagine what I'd actually do with more power in the Zed - its quite a quick car out of the box though I wish Nissan would see fit to bring out a "Type R/Version R" lightweight model without all the bells and whistles and associated weight.

If you want a quicker car than the Zed and similar running costs I'd suggest a Lotus Exige over any TVR.

oh totally agreed about the running costs, well it's more so the servicing side as the guy i bought my Zed from is now driving a t350C and for a lot less than you'd imagine they cost, but he said he was getting similar fuel economy to the Zed... I don't know about a lightweight Zed though, I've do like my creature comforts too (And i know there's pis5 all in a TVR), but turbocharging i think will probably be the route... I'll give it another year minimum though, and see how this kit that one of the uk owners works out.

this isn't a lightweight one though, has all the same stuff, granted a nicely beefed up engine!! 3.8 producing 350bhp, i doubt we'll see any on our shores though...
