PC running at 100%

My poxy computer is running at 100%.
What happens is it works for maybe a minute then 'pauses' again for a few minutes before getting it's breath back.
I checked what's running and there doesn't seem to be an obvious culprit, any ideas?

It's not the first time either, it was like this a few months back but righted itself.
Wonder how far I could throw it?

Nah, Dell only give it's employees a 10% discount, it's hardly worth the red tape.

Ram should be fine though, 1GB.

How much space do you have left on your main drive? What size is your page file? Little space and large page file would cause problems.

Bernard, I asume you're referring to 100% CPU usage? Have you identified the problematic process? (taskmgr , arrange process by highest CPU usage). Alternativity, get a copy of Process Explorer from http://www.sysinternals.com .

I'll check when I get home from work but I think I sorted it.

I noticed the fan cut in (loudly) today so I opened the chassis up.
What was happening was the dust \ fluff was clogging the fan and I'm guessing CPU was overheating.

After a good cleaning and all seemed fine for the next couple of hours, touch wood it stays like that.
