Annoying sounds from the tires when passing a bump.

Postby ultrakupra » Sun Oct 03, 2010 9:23 am

Ok,so i have 17' tires installed on my F,until some days ago,my suspension was normal. Then i installed Apex springs, and now when i pass through a bump i can hear the tires hitting or the fender or something on the tire house.

Anyone had this problem before? What is the best solution?

Cheers.

:whs

When parked up just turn the wheels fully to the left and right and have a look. There should be very little room to the front of the wheel arch seems the wheels are now 17's and between the suspension seems it's lowered now

Well, sorry about my poor english. But i think Seb got the idea. :)
When parked if i turn the wheels fully to the left or right its ok,it doesnt touch the fender plastic arches,it touches it only when running through a bump. And it makes a really 'ugly' sound
Is a good idea to cut the plastic arches or are any wires behind them? :?

no point cutting them... the tyre will make it's space in them

When you break through the arches there are the pipes for the air con running above it. Better to take out your arches and put something stronger in behind them before you put them back. Put some reinforcing of sorts up into the arches, it will make them stronger and prevent the risk of you damaging pipes or wires.

Ok guys, thanks for all your advices :D
So,today i took my F for a ride, but before i jacked up the front and checked the plastic arches, the left one(where the sound always come from) has a mysterious bump on it,i forced that bump inside with my hand while warming it using a dryer and voila,no more tyres hitting the plastic arch. :D
Well,to tell you the truth, still there are some hits  ,but when i run through a really big bump, before it was hitting the arch on every light road bump and it was so annoying.

Paul, can you take a photo or explain me better what you have on your fender arches done? My tyres are still rubbing, not as often as before but i prefer to sort it before i have some serious problem with the arches or even worse with the tyre. :)

wisj i could but i took them off :) sorry. plus there were coilovers on it with adjustable camber setting which might have helped the wheels not to rub.

If you at least could explain to me what you had done there before you took them off...its the left front side only, after some reserchs i find out that the left front arch is slightly different because there are pipes and wires behind them,so thats why its rubbing and driving me nuts lol
Any help please. :r

I haven't done it myself but I've heard they can be heated and pushed up a bit.
It's another option to cable tying them.

As in using cable ties to pull them to a higher point than where they currently are.

I'll see if I can take some pictures this evening of whats involved, I have spare arch liners lying around at home that are in bits and will see if theres some way of explaining it to you through pictures.

For some reason there are less space on the front left tyre arch than the right one, mine is falling apart lol
Thats the price to pay for using cool big tyres and alloys and lowering springs i guess lol
