problem with door lock on 1999 opel astra

Postby AL » Wed Apr 30, 2008 3:57 pm

basically problem is .....driver door wont open. its central locking and when key is turned it pops lever up and down accordingly, but when i pull handle to open door it wont budge.
so i have to enter via passenger side and crawl over seat

its the same if i try to open door from inside.

i was thinking it was a mechanical fault (loose or broken pin in mechanism etc) i cannot get a inside of door without tearing apart the panelling, but this can only be done properly when door is open  :x

has anyone had this problem on this or any other car?

im also wondering if a solenoid in the door has been knackered or if a fuse blew, but am thinking that this would affect all the central locking.

any help appreciated.

When you pull the handle from inside or out, what happens, does it easily go the full way or does it stop part of the way? Wondering if the rod to actually do the unlocking has come disconnected...

A panel beaters might have a quick easy trick they could use to get the door open for ya maybe?

Fairyfield motors on the way to Newmarket on Fergus were always helpful any time I owned a Fiat.
they're beside the Bellsfort Inn there at Lemenagh.

Astras used to have a deadlocking feature. I don't know if it is in the 1999 model but it looks like it has failed.

It made the cars virtually thiefproof as you needed the Key to open the door if the deadlock was used but the emergency services didn't like it for the same reasons.

It sounds like the deadlock is stuck.

the deadlock on the old Opels could only be activated from outside the car with the key - it wouldn't be used while driving.
