is this normal?

Postby mark » Thu Dec 25, 2003 8:17 pm

Happy Xmas to all.
Ok, my GR revs up to about 2500rpm when first started from cold, surely that can't be too healthy for any engine.Sometimes it only revs to about 1500rpm and no,my foot isn't on the accelerator at the time. Should I be worried about anything?

does it stay at 2500rpm or does it drop in revs immediately after starting?

When I initially start mine it revs to approx 2000rpm (like I've gassed the engine) and then immediately drops back to about 1000rpm for a short while. I always saw this as normal.

yea, reckon it's something like that - although it never happened on my GS - must be something specific to the V6 (?)

i get it on cold mornings, it'll rev up to about just under 2000, so that's what i assumed it was cos the warmer the engine gets the lower goes until it just sits at the normal idle.
(mine is a GS  )

Never saw that happen either. However it did sit well below the 1000 mark whenever the battery went flat. it stayed like that until you severely revved the car. then it sat at 1500 again.
