Sleek Jap Import

Postby Kace » Tue Jul 12, 2005 2:30 pm

Over the past month I have seen a car twice that has really caught my eye. I didn't ever get close enough to see the make but I would describe as follows :

- Very long, large and sleek coupe with rear clusters similar to Merc SL500
- Wide car with thin narrow front lights
- This one was silver and I have only ever seen one of them
- Also had a Jap-style plate

Anyone any ideas as to what it might be - it was a real looker

Wild guess, Nissan 200SX ??
Have a look on Autotrader.
Are fairly wide and long, newer models have relatively thin front lights?

This doesn't really describe an S15 - nice car an all that it may be.
Its no bigger than an FTO.

What year was it - Are you sure its Jap?

If it is Jap then possibilities may include - Lexus SC430 (with hardtop on)

or previous generation Soarer

Looks like those nice people on the toyota forum are blocking those links.

CJ got it in one - that was definitely it. It just maybe looked wide due to the long front and rear clusters. Gotta be wider than an FTO tho'

It was definitely an import with a large bore exhaust and trademark square plate.

I am of course familiar with all of the other suggestions (Soarers, 200SX, Lexus etc.)

How much are these fetching I wonder.

I don't want to steal Mustands limelight on this one ;)

The S15s go for good money, 20 grand or so. Check this one out in the Autotrader

That's exactly why I did not mention the new or older generation soarers, they are fairly well known cars.

WTF? €26k for a '99 Silvia. That is madness, I would have estimated a price closer to half that. :? Do they really make that kind of money or is this guy just a stealer trying his luck?

I think he's chancing his arm alright, I would have thought that you could get a 99/00 S15 Spec-R into the country for about 17 - 18k all in. For that money, you're getting a sub 6 second 250bhp car with a very unique look, 17k sounds reasonable given their rarity, but you'd be hard pressed to part with 26k...

I like the Autotrader quote from the Galway dealer ....... " No Dreamers"
I think at that price the more likely scenario is ........ "No Takers !!!"

Its a bit ironic alright that the biggest "dreamer" would be the dealer if he thinks he's gonna get that kind of money.

:D
26k for a '99 Silvia. For that money you could have 2 x 200sx (S14), and still have change left over to tune them up to a similar 250bhp level.
