My new toy.. (S2000)

Postby TopCat » Sun Jul 04, 2010 7:22 pm

Took this car for a spin last week and immediately wanted it, so thanks to the quick sale of the beemer, I managed to pick this up...

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Been away most of the weekend, so only had a couple of days with it so far, but my initial thoughts are that it's a great little car.
The power is delivery is something else. At lower revs, it doesn't feel particularly powerful, but suddenly you're breaking motorway speed limits and have 3 more gears left! It just loves to be revved.
Gearbox is the nicest I've ever used, just something about the movement is very tight and precise, really like it.
Handling wise, I was expecting the back end to be a lot more twitchy given the mix of power, weight and RWD, but it's very planted. What I have noticed though, in comparison to the FTO, it that it is much more sensitive going through bends. Putting the power on pushes the nose out, and if you back off during the turn, the front end tightens up (the beginning of lift off oversteer I guess?). Takes a little getting used too.
That's my first impression on it anyway.
Looking forward to giving it a proper clean and getting it nice and shiny. Will put up a couple more pics when I get a chance.
Think it may need to be taken to a track sometime too. :D

Yum! Black with red leather - the best combination. I wouldn't mind taking it for a spin to compare to the Zed if you're around town some day.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I had one for 2 year and God did I love that car. Best car I have ever owned.... changed it for a 911 (964) and was disappointed   The S2000 is just an amazing machine... which ever petrol head should own at some tage of their lives. I look on UK site all the time for cars... and facelift 2004 models are available for under 10k sterling now!

@ Shane - Yeah, I had my heart set on that colour combo, but hard to find. The silvers are much more common. Not down in Limerick as often these days, but will give you a shout when I am. I'm sure it won't be a patch on the Zed, but you're welcome to take it for a spin.

@Adrian - Thanks, cos to be honest I remember reading some comments regarding the car on this site before, and I think some might have been yours, and they got me really interested. So you can take a bit of credit for the purchase. :) Because the colour combo was so rare, I had looked at importing, and the UK prices are very good, but the (insert expletive here) VRT quickly pushed them back out of my price range.

Weather wasn't good for much else today, so gave the new car a clean, clay bar, and some polish...

Cracking looking car Tom, well wear.
I thought S2000's always had the red 'H' badge on front on back though? It is a Type R after all isn't it?

I don't recall ever seeing an S2000 with a red badge on the front. Thought they were always the normal standard badge.

What about the back then? Maybe I'm wrong, just thought I'd seen them with red ones. NSX does though doesn't it?

Don't think I saw them with the red badge before, not that I remember anyway.

Thinking of getting a "Type R" sticker for it though, or maybe an m-tec badge... :P

Red badges are aftermarket and are common on Ebay etc...

No plans to go messing with the badges, I prefer the minimal look, so the only thing I'd consider is de-badging it.

Actually, the one thing I would like to do is paint the calipers. Only noticed how plain they look when I cleaned the alloys. Undecided as to whether to go black (nice and subtle) or red, but considering the red interior, I'm thinking red. Now where's that guide...

I think this is such a good thing to do on the s2000. I did mine... you can see how they'll look. I got chrome/metallic decals from EBay (a seller called DecalGirl) as far as I remember and I laquered them on. 3 coats of paint after wire brussing them and after the 3 coats of paint I did a high temp laquer finish. Do it man!! And choose red!!

Hmm, hardtop, very nice, and pretty rare. You can get a Mugen one from the states, they're a CF top, cost about €2K.
