computer is dying..

Brought my 14th month old Dell Inspiron to PC World yesterday cause d back light is gone on the lcd...

€300+ to fix it :smt022 :smt022 :smt022
Cant believe its this much!
Does anyone know am i better off buying a new one or can this be fixed for less???

I presume its a laptop. When the backlight is gone its usually the inverter that needs to be replaced. The inverter is in the screen case next to the lcd. You can get the inverter from ebay cheaply and install it yourself. Ive done it on a couple of laptops and its not difficult. You just have to be careful not to break anything.
Worst case scenario look on ebay for another screen with casing and everything and swap them.
Either way 300 its way too much. You can almost get a new laptop with that.

I'll have a look on ebay and see what the story is. I really dont have 300+ to spend so il try anything instead a buying a new now.

What little I've heard of PC World hasn't impressed me in any branch. Heard bad things about their level of expertise and how expensive they are for even the simpler jobs. Better off keeping clear of them I think!

Yeah give pc world a wide bearth. O.K. for buyin a laptop from but awful aftersales service. Do you have an outfit called MPLEX down there? Heard good reports. :D

think i know the part thats gone and they are cheap on ebay. There was a girl ahead of me in the queue in pc world (with a completely different prob) and she was quoted the same price as me 300-350
