guys the new mini has a "start stop tecnology"
where put the car into nutral and the engine turns off, touch the clutch and it starts again.

theey are saying its lighter on fuel.
dose it not take more petrol to start the car?

maybe it would save if you were in heavy traffic like up in dublin but other than that i dont think so.

This sounds to me like that old "leaving your lights on is better than switching them off because of the start up power consumption" which is absolute rubbish.

I find it difficult to believe starting the engine uses that significant an amount of fuel. It's just turning over the same as it always does... Could well be wrong though.

You would want a fairly sturdy starter motor to support constant starting on a day to day basis. By and large, I don't like the idea of a car making decisions for me (AYC aside - its the bomb), thats said, this sounds interesting. More info required on the mechanical front methinks....

presume this is combined with the efficent dynamics BMW have on their cars. think the starter is uprated. starting a warm engine doesn't take too much effort anyway.

Even if starting a warm engine doesn't take much effort, is this not going to put major strain on the electrical system & starter motor?

I think the whole environmentally friendly issue is very close to going a bit over the top. Where will it end???

I agree with CJ in that I like to decide what the car does and not visa versa.

Rant over :r
