gpvr4 has meet it death

Postby Danny Kierans » Tue Jan 15, 2013 11:52 am

i finally got myself a workshop to start to project again, and replaced all gsr rear diff and shafts that were robbed by traveler's. got the vr4 and all parts out to start again. then a polish guy just before xmas crashed into my gpvr when it was parked outs side my house at 8.30am on a sunday morning. we had to block the road with the fto to keep them in the estate. when they went to ramp it again, of course garda came didnt even arrest him for drink driven, he had no insurance, and i got my quotes back damage done is 5,800. so heart broken after all the work i done to it and all the cars and parts i have for the gpvr4 job.not sure what im doing yet, waiting to see if i get cash from him for it or mibi could take 5 years to get any money, and it not cover anywhere near what i put into it. and no i didnt have it insured, since the family vw dealership closed i wasn't driven it.so that a big bag of shi@.

damage done r/h qtr panel and door was driven into head on and rear alloys ,shocks, track arms all bent both side from being pushed into the path. ill add photo when i can its in a garage with the garda waiting on an answer from the guy who crashed into it. a big mess.

It's horrible to think this easily happen and through no fault of your own, your seriously out of pocket. I know if my fto got a smack, i would get less than 20% of what i've put into it in the last 15 months. The system really needs to change.

Very sad to hear the story. Drink driving, no insurance etc. - an unhappy ending on this one by the sounds of things.

hi every one. so have not been on but this is just something i blank for a while. but fbd as taking on this case from mibi, and this week iv been told , they want to scrap the car as the bodyshop cost of repair was €5,500. so they offered me €1900 for the lot. i said i want to keep the car to repair has i spent more then that on the paint work never mind anything else. there answer is iv to buy the car back at a cost of €400 and then pay an excess of €440 for the insurance claim, which i dont get as it was not my fault ,i wasn't even in the car. so i end up with my crashed car and €1,000 to try fix something a body shop cost at €5,500. which is over the top ,it can be fixed for less but not that much less. so very bad point at the moment. and to top it off my vr4 engine was robbed by travelers. :(

here is some pictures of my car the way it is now.

when he hit it, he pushed it the rear wheel on the other side into the curb and bent suspension on the other side.

Are they writing it off? If so, you have the added expense of getting an engineers report to put it back on the road. They do this when a car is safe, but uneconomical to repair.

i think so. an uneconomical write off. thanks for that i never thought of that. ill have to ask them about that. and just see if they will pay out for just repair. i hate this. they just try push you to scrap your car,

They don't pay for an engineers report. You're buying back the car as it is (highest value scrap) and you then have to fork out for report. It will be tight, but you should be able to get it sorted and report paid, but i'd be rightly peed off in your position.

thanks. yes i could not let it die. iv put to much blood and tears into it, but i think the vr4 engine thing is a non runner now. i could have bought another car cheaper then fixing this one. sad to see fto's are worth nothing any more.you would think a good looking well built car would have held more value then that.

Glad to see one more FTO saved!

I hope U wont have any problems passing the test with other bits like suspension etc. The NCT centers will fail U on anything just to make money!

here she is now. needs a clean but 100% again.
