96 GPX: Looking For Info

Postby DubC » Mon Nov 25, 2013 12:01 am

Hi, I'm wondering if the car advertised here http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/m ... le/6005573 was owned by a club member or whether or not anyone here knows anything about it. It was imported in 2005 and had an owner in Galway until 2012 when it was passed on after he left for Aus.
I bought the car but the previous owner had no information on the gearbox conversion which is a concern. It was originally black but resprayed to blue if that helps.

Why is the gearbox conversion a concern? if it's all working correctly then it should be no problem.

Seems you just can't stop buying ftos haha

It's running fine thus far but the car itself has 125k on it, the gearbox could've been taken from a heap of sh%$ and have 300k on it..

Not likely. As I said already and also in the post above, it's nothing to worry about. The fto has a great gear box. But maybe someone might know about the cars history.

If there's no whines, grinds etc then it doesn't matter. You could have a gearbox with less than 125k that's crap, so as long as it's mechanically ok the mileage shouldn't bother you.

I think it is the same car. Bodykit and rims match exactly. Also has rear wiper, which is not that common. Plus, a quick search through the posts I noticed him asking about mapping the car and Dubc was told the car was mapped. Was also told it's 220bhp at the moment and would be close to 250 with a decat on :smt005

Some people eh? I think it looks much better without the carbon wrap too.

Unless that car has an aftermarket Ecu, either standalone or piggyback it's not mapped.

Much appreciate the assistance with finding the owner folks. Unfortunately any real history on the car which may have been posted has been purged...

What do you mean it has been purged ? All of ikeane's posts are still up so I'm sure you can glean something from these.

For instance here is an interesting one : http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3157&p=20360#p20360

Yeah, what Kace said. How do you think I found the previous owners forum name?

The car needs a little TLC but I reckon Dubc has found himself a keeper this time. Front bumper needs repair and respray. Seller dropped the asking price by a chunk too and rightfully so, considering all the BS he was advertising. The ad is still on DD.

Interesting post alright. Seems the coilovers seen better days too : http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4443&p=28761#p28761

I wouldn't be too happy with a car that got a bad slap, if it need the back bumper, boot lid and quarters done then it must have been fairly bad. Usually cars pricked about with years ago with bodykits and the likes have seen better days, I would remove the kit and put it back standard(ish) along with removing the carbon wrap.
