Sub 5k FTOs in Buy and Sell

Postby CJ » Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:46 am

Theres a few cheap FTOs in the buy and sell this week:

Mitsubishi FTO 1995, Leinster Offaly €4250
all elec, perfect cond, NCT 070/7, tax 03/07, silver, 086-3627725

Mitsubishi FTO GR V6 2.0L 1995, Leinster Kilkenny €4400
149k kms, 2 dr, NCT 01/07, silver, a/c, alarm, alloys, CD, climate cntrl, c/l, e/m, e/w, immob, p/s, fully serviced. 051-895182

Mitsubishi FTO 2.0L petrol 1995, Munster Cork €4250
93k mls, 2 dr, semi-auto, NCT 06/07, met, red, a/c, alarm, alloys, CD, e/w, f/s, immob, s/room cond, must see. 086-8903704

I can only guess at the condition of these cars (all GR tips possibly?) but I would wonder if this is a sign of things to come? The later models are still being advertised for silly money in most cases, it would appear that the price gap between older and newer models is widening as time goes on....

To be fair though - theres a big difference between the majority of 95/96 models coming off the boat to the majority of 95/96 FTO's that have been on Irish roads for the past 6-8 years with very basic maintenance.

I'd barely pay €5K for many of the 95 FTO's I've seen advertised - but I'd be prepared to spend a couple of grand more for something cleaner off the boat.

I was discussing this very topic with MfFTO the other day. Yes I expect these cars are a bit on the rough side. But compare these prices to the ones you see in carzone/cbg etc if anything the prices there are on the increase, pre facelift cars included e.g. 9.5k for a '96 GR
All of a sudden there seems to be a huge rift in asking prices!

9.5k for a 96 is an exception where the seller hasn't done his homework, either that, or he was comparing like with like wrt later models.

Theres some merit to this statement, we're seeing a lot more late model facelifts coming on stream due to the fact that the UK lads can no longer inport them due to the lack of an SVA report. Its likely that the high prices being quoted by dealers for later models is actually adding a premium to earlier cars, sellers see 98's being advertised for 13k and assume that their 96 is worth more than it actually is. I havn't been keeping track of price differences between various models and brands but it does seem that theres a huge inequality between the price of facelift vs. non-facelift FTOs in recent times.
