I'd be wary about even using that for an tip box. The tip one is a flexible rubber surround with an 'C' profile (best way I can describe it). It needs to be pushed into place and sort of jimmied around a bit to fit properly. The one in your post appears to be a flat piece of aluminium with no profile, and no leverage as its rigid. I can't really see anything that will hold that in place.
As for manual boxes I always thought they had a totally different gaiter design to the tip but maybe I'm wrong, I'm sure someone with a manual will tell you.

Maybe. What about if you need to take it off again though, is it easy to refit it? If its glues to the rubber then the rubber one isn't going to be flexible anymore.

Screws would look awful though, you want to keep the thing looking uniform and clean, would be like sticking a plastic Jesus on the dashboard!

Same shape as a manual surround judging by the picture but as dragonheart said, it is completely flat. Might be raised on the sides when it is glued/screwed on.

My manual does not have a flexible rubber surround. I thought only the tip boxes had that. I can't see that piece fitting mate. I just looked at my gator and the piece holding the leather fabric in place protrudes the dash surround piece.
