Dynoed the RX-7

Postby CJ » Sun Jul 08, 2007 12:10 pm

The RX-7 crew over @ irishrotary.com met up yesterday - with a date like 07/07/07 it was hard to pass up! The main activity was a dyno session down @ Xtreme Performance in Waterford, I must say, I was surprised with my own figures (as follows):

Estimated @ the fly: 265bhp
Actual power @ the fly: 316bhp
ATW figure: 263bhp
Torque: 252 lbs/ft @ 5235rpm
Mods: Blitz induction, silenced midpipe, aftermarket exhaust, Apexi Power FC ECU

Considering that the quoted stock figure at the wheels is 255bhp (which in my view is a big underestimate), I was well happy. Turbo-chared cars react so much better to breathing mods, especially when its all tied up with a decent aftermarket ECU.

The drive home from Waterford seemed that bit quicker for some reason or other ;)

Nice1 - so you're all done with the mapping, or is there more to come?

I'm reasonably happy with the state of tune although I reckon the map could do with some fine tuning @ the top end - watch this space!

Thats quite an amazing bhp figure with just breathing mods - especially running on 95 RON. You should have close on 250bhp per ton which is seriously quick. Looking forward to seeing how it fares in the 1/4 mile.

Agreed. One of the other guys had the same setup as my own yoke with the added benefit of a freeer flowing downpipe, he only managed an extra 2bhp at the wheels but I had the edge on him torque wise by 10 lbs/ft. Heres a scan of the graph FYI

Sounds good! How did the guys in Xtreme Autos compare to the lads in Meath?

They've a bigger setup with more parking space, they also have a fully equipped shop in their premises. They seem to get a lot of passing business i.e lads lookin for induction kits, getting problems with turbo timers fixed etc.
