I have a silver fto. It has two or three very small chip marks on the body and I can just see the mat grey paint you mentioned. I believe thats just the first coat of paint that Mitsubishi applied on the car before spaying the shiny paint.

Hmm... thanks for the comments guys - quite reassuring.

I'm going back on Saturday to test drive it so I'll know for sure if I want or not. I've been thinking about it all day which says a lot.

I'm also viewing a different one tomorrow.

Anyone got any idea how much it would cost to get the door panel resprayed? Roughly.

how's the interior?

all FTO's are crazy when it comes to tappets so i wouldnt be bothered ( it dissapears after a few minutes)

Well I've nothing to compare it to but I liked the interior. Was clean and nothing stood out as odd. Seat was very comfortable.

Hi again, hehe, I must have confused you with woldhound about passing your test. hehe. Im sure you'll get it anyways. Ok, the car, to be honest I have a bad feeling and I have not even seen the car. Given what you said about the lacquer missing from paint on the door, and the bonnet being suspect, and the guys sayig more than once that "we took it as a trade in so we don't know anything about it" etc etc etc. stinks to me. big time. The reason Im saying this aswell is because there is PLENTY of FTOs for sale so there is definitely a cleaner one than that for the same price or very similar. Mark is 100% right, follow your heart. You will always have doubts about a car if there is something not right. If its the right car you will love it and it will all feel good. I'd deffo say keep looking for now. See what else turns up. theres tons out there to be seen.

The problem is there aren't a lot of manuals around at the moment in my price range. If I sort out the door on this one and it drives well it'll really be exactly what I want. I'm just hoping my worries disappear on Saturday when I drive it!

I'd second mcgon on that. Yep, price range but you do get what you pay for, the last thing you need is to fork out for unforeseen stuff. Don't forget tax, nct etc, it might need a new cat and you have no way of knowing that until nct man tells you that you emissions where true the roof for example and that's 500 quid or so

Does the timing belt need to be done etc etc? Drive as many FTOs as you can, you'll get a know the good ones very quickly, I drove and looked at 16 of them before I bought my current one, I must be obsessed :!:

Well I went to look at this car: http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cf ... rID=739973 last night and I've fallen in love with it.

It's not actually black as it looks in the picture, but a sort of very dark army-camo style green. Which looks surprisingly well.

Despite the mileage it's in great condition and is beatiful to drive. It's also got a good few aftermarket bits - suspension, brakes, intake and a decent sound system with a 6 CD changer in the glove box.

Oh and it's a manual Mivec. Exactly what I wanted.

It failed the NCT on emissions (very slightly, he showed me the sheet) but the owner's a mechanic and he's already bought a new cat which he had in the boot. So he's fitting it this weekend, getting the retest and then I'm gonna take it from him.

I'm very excited!

I'm glad you've found a car you love - and I really don't mean to upset you or anything..but this car was descibed by a fellow member as having some ussies with the paint job..It might not be important to you at all - all the same have a read of this thread..

Yeah I had read that but to be honest I didn't see the fuss. It looked great to me. I'm quite a picky person normally, but obviously not when it comes to paint since I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

I'll probably end up respraying it anyway somewhere down the line, if all goes well.
