Bargain Hunting - Any recommendations ?

Postby Gwyn » Wed Apr 23, 2008 1:22 pm

Hi all - been thinking of getting another car, but keeping the FTO for weekends / playtime. Mainly due to the fact that I am now on the school run and want to get something a little safer.

Hate spending money - so setting a 10k limit. Has to be year 2000 or newer, has to have back seats, and a 2-litre engine - no deisel.

Been looking for a while and nothing jumps out. Ones that interest me so far are the Alfa 147 2.0 Lusso (2002). The horror stories of Alfa ownership persist though.

Saab 9-3 (2001) 3 door
BMW 520i (2000/2001) - all pretty high mileage, but some high spec models available

Puegeot 206 GTi (2002) / Renault Clio 2.0

I also spotted a 2.4 Fiat Stilo Abarth (didn't know it existed).

Any one familiar with the cars above ? Any other recommendations ?

Cheers,

Gwyn

All interesting cars you are considering there.
Out of that lot I'd consider the Saab, Alfa or Clio 172 depending on what my priorities where:
Performance - Clio 172
Image/comfort - Saab
Blend of above - Alfa 2.0 (not selespeed).

Amazed anyone actually bought a Stilo Abarth in Ireland- would have been financial suicide to consider these new but I guess they'd make a good secondhand buy.

Also consider a 00/01 Racing Puma - as much room in the back as the Clio - fabulous handling car.
