Electrics system - Power when unlocked

Postby technikhaus » Sat Mar 24, 2012 9:11 am

Hey guys!

So last night Nick and I tried to install the boot release button he has been planning. We managed to get the wiring in and the actuator hooked up, but were still having one problem.

Because the button is on the outside of the vehicle, any old bugger could come up and open his boot (which usually carries thousands of dollars of equipment) and take all he owns.... Yeah Nah!

So we need to find a way to find to hook up the system to a power source that is only on when the car is unlocked via the remote. We tried hooking it to the boot release wire that comes from the security system immobiliser box but found that it needs programming to be activated, and without a dash LED to help us programme it that option is ruled out.

Next we looked at the mirror lights, as they come on when you unlock the car but unfortunately it uses a signal cable to switch on the lights once you unlock the car. so we don't think that will work either. It was the same deal with the ignition ring LED.

So you can see our problem, we need a 12 volt source that will only power on when the car is unlocked/ security system deactivated.

Anyone have an idea of what we could do? Having the button is so great! and we cant wait to remove the key lock off of the boot!

Cheers everyone! Happy driving!

Shouldn't be too hard to fit a mechanical spring loaded switch to the drivers side lock actuator?

I could see that working, but it just might be hard to mount, as i've seen the access there, and it's quite tight
