2nd car £1000

Am looking for a second car as my Akita is getting too big and smelly for the FTO now.

Have had a quick look through AT and come up with the following:
Rover 200 vi
Almera Si
Golf GTi
Peugeot 306
Volvo S40

Anyone have any other suggestions?
Big miles or cat D repaired aint a prob but an MOT would be preferable.

Go with the S40, same front shocks as the FTO! (give or take a degree of camber).

Nope! I've been running S40 shocks (KYB OEM) up front in GPX for a few years now.

Dave, you're spending a grand for god sake, your choices are kinda limited! Bearing in mind your budget, I'd be going for the Volvo from a build quality / reliability perspective. No point in buying a car for a grand only for you to have to spend the same amount putting it right....

Well they would certainly be cheaper than Mitsi OEM items. (Camsill sell them btw) They're setup with an extra degree of negative camber IIRC, thats the only difference.

I would say you'd really need to take a look at the condition of the cars themselves, one might be in far better nick than another that you'd prefer. Most people with cars that aren't worth much aren't likely to spend money looking after them so I'd say that should be high on your list of criteria.

Keeping an eye out for an old cheap van myself, ~€500 would be ideal, FTO is not very band friendly so something that brings my gear to gigs would be great.

yes kevin i agree. it really depends on the car itself but there are clean cars out there for not a lot of cash-its just finding a cherished one thats the key!

Sorted! picked up a golf gti mk3 for £800. Few gremlins needing sorted but happy enough. The dog loves it

Nice dog but try at the smell after Three Rottweilers in the back. I opted for a jeep the FTO was a no no.... But heh the Golf will work too

Nice one.... handy and nippy... scratched the idea of a van for the moment, insurance was crazy for something I'd prob only be using a few times a month so wasn't worth it.
