Postby ultrakupra » Fri Apr 01, 2011 1:30 pm

Ok,so in october i have to pass the 'shaken' which is the vehicle inspection here in Japan, also you have to pay all taxes and stuff,so its probably going to cost me around 150000 yen(1300 euro)...
Im thinking on sell the car and then get a skyline r33 gtr,i have my eye on one...but i love my FTO so much,so i dont know what to do...
What do you guys think? what should i do? :?
To sell or not to sell, that is the question...
I'm spanish, sorry if my english is so poor,i learned it at school when i was a kid and i forgot almost all of it lol

R32 GTR or R34 GTR for me. I think Nissan kinda lost the plot on the R33.

Thanks for your replies guys...
The thing is that the other day i was on a rent for hours garage(common in japan because you cant do stuff on the streets...),and a group of guys came in all in tuned sports cars, skylines gtr, farilady Zs,silvias,rx8,rx7...etc
And we ended talking and some of them let me test drive some of their cars,i loved the r33,the rx-7 and the s-15.My FTO is a tip,so is like i remembered the fun of driving a manual transmission car, also, all more powerful than the FTO...But i dont know,i like my FTO...even that that guys said things like 'Front wheel driving? auto transmission? thats not a sports car'... :(

The FTO is quite a capable sports car and would show a clean pair of heals to many sports cars (RWD and otherwise) of the same era (94-01). The FTO was placed in the market against the Celica, VW Corrado, Alfa GTV etc and certainly didn't lack for performance against them and was much quicker than the hot hatches of the day.

Time has moved on though and I guess if RWD action and turbos are your preference than an FTO is not for you. It is what it is - a good looking performance coupe with excellent FWD handling and a lovely sounding mivec engine. The fact that more modern RWD alternatives like the RX8 or even many modern hot hatches aren't really any quicker than good manual mivec FTO says it all for me.

Quote of the week and a good perspective on the merits of the FTO.

Searching the Jap auction sites a few years ago for 'FTO' used to return in excess of 30 cars for auction on any one day. Last time I checked there was 2, some days none. I'd be pretty sure that a Skyline search would thrown back a load of results. The FTO is getting rarer as time goes on (not 'rare manuel', but you know what I mean), if I had a garage, I know what I'd be putting under a cover.

Take stock of what exactly you're looking for in car and pick a motor that ticks all of the boxes. I owned a couple of quick cars in between FTOs but always found myself hankering after the FTO, go figure.

why not get a manual fto???? if you have a tip and would like to go back to manual it will be a lil quicker. jeezus man your in Japan there nust be a mint 01 GPvr manual you could pick up. then you would have probably one of the most sought after fto`s on this site. id sell my missus for one if it was passion red.

if it was me id get the skyline... as much as i love my fto she 16 now and ive owned it for 4 years and dont really want to throw anymore money at it. would love to just garage it
