I've witnessed the introduction of a performance filter on an FTO at a rolling road day and have even seen power figures decrease with the filter.

I was there that day and can confirm, one of the reasons why I always suggest a performance panal filter over an induction kit without adequate CAI.

K&N 57i kits and gen2 kits include CAI ducting. CAI is a pre-requisite for induction filters if you want any kind of performance gains.

Bear in mind that the power run in question included a dyno fan i.e. plenty of cool air getting to the kit (IIRC it was a HKS filter). The same filter was fitted to a Pajero Evolution during the day, power gains in the region on 10bhp were recorded. On that basis, its arguable that theres little merit in fitting an induction kit (CAI or otherwise) in isolation when chasing power gains on the FTO. In my experience, the only added benefit to fitting a kit is induction roar (if thats your thing).

I can see your point but the i thought if you can get more air volume and colder dence air then the cleaner the burn which then produces power that why when you drive your car to work in the morning the car will be more responceive just need to find out the mass of air per inch into the inlet to much will drone it out find the right volume you will get the increase

Remember that you need to add extra fuel into the mix to get more power i.e. aftermerket or piggyback ECU required to alter the A/F ratio. As a follow on, you also need to expel exhaust gases with greater efficiency i.e. aftermarket header / downpipe / exhaust. Even with all of these mods, FTO power increases are minimal. In my view, throwing money at stage one FTO engine mods is a flase ecomony if you're chasing power gains. Other n/a cars may respond better to induction / exhaust mods, experience has show that this is not the case with the FTO. Money would be better spent on indirect performance mods such as improved braking, suspension, reducing unspring weight (wheels, flywheel) and fitting good quality tyres.

Good point Colm, for example your GR engine for 180quid , but if he still sticks to 1.8 from some reason (can`t find any), induction kit may give him different gains than on V6. I don`t know how GS react on induction kits but it seems like we`re all barely experienced with this engine.

I fitted a Blitz SUS filter to my old GS, there were no noticable power gains but the resulting metallic induction roar was addictive! The GS intake system doesn't differ considerably between the GS and V6 models so I wouldn't expect much in the way of achievable gains, I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Gentlemen i can see your point i have got i a bmc filter on now in pursuit of a power gain and not much of a gain but noticed a better throttle responceness but been speaking to a mitsubishi mechanic and found the advantages of the 1.8 is i cant put the evo 5 turbo head on the block with out changing the pistons only thing i need to change is fuel pump ect and certain gaskets my harness will suit the ecu but down side is no 4 wheel drive

This ARC option is likely to set you back in the region of €250-300 - and all for negligible power gains.

Big money and small gains - not worth it IMO.

Dude you right that to much for so little but you guys got to remember ive got the small inline 4 engine i know i can get power gains from stuff the v6 cant . So im gonna try a bmc cold air i know i wont hit 200 bhp but its worth a good go . If i can get 212 bhp from a 1.8 civic im sure i can do something out of mine just looking at evo head but not sure yet . Were there is a will there is a way .

Whoa!! just meant we could do with a turbocharged FTO! would be an ideal conversion for a 1.8

I see got ya . If i can find a lancer head and turbo for not alot of money i would try it . I think it would be a good conversion. What ya think i think it might hit 200 bhp or more but not to much cause of lose of traction though the front wheels
