engine jerky at 60 mph

engine jerky at 60 mph

I have the fto gs 1.8 4 speed auto
when crusing at 60mph the engine feels jurky like coils braking down or fuel starvation but if I acelerate it's fine only like this if holding a steddy 60mph .
checked brakes for rubbing checked air mass meter looks clean
have been putting in red x injector cleaner in the petrol to see if injectors may be at fault also had a general look around see if anything jumps out at me as a fault.
anybody had anything like this or any ideas please thanks :?: :?:

Check plugs, plug leads and consider changing the fuel filter if all else fails.

I concur. I'd possibly just do a service now that you're at it anyways..might as well.

I have changed the plugs and oil waiting on
air filter
petrol filter
coolant sensor
front and rear anti rollbar bushes
ht leads will come next when I can aford it
I whant to change every service able thing in case we need to go to england in it .

Hey.
Was wondering if you've fixed your problem.
Mine seems similar - Car goes rough as feck when accelerating between
65-75 MPH. After that the shaking stops and the car runs fine.
If I travel at 65-75 with my foot off the pedal the car is pure smooth.
I've changed the front 3 plugs today but no improvement.
I might have a bash at changing the back 3 tomorrow,
gonna change the fuel filter too, though I can't see how that would cause the problem.

Changed the rear 3 plugs, still no difference...

Hi,

I also have a very similar problem.
There is a sort of a shuddering coming from the front of the car at approx 60mph. This is not here before 60mph and at appox 70 shuddering cannot be felt.
Ive got the car tracked, wheels balanced,checked brake disc's all are ok.
Have replaced antirollbar bushes also.
Have also fully serviced the car.

Hey...
Maybe between us we'll crack it.
As I mentioned in another post I noticed that the brake guard behind the front driver's side disc was a bit beat out of shape.
That's my next route toward tracking down the problem.

Do you know if your disc guards are in good shape?

Also, if I let off the accelerator at said speeds (65-75) the shuddering stops. I don't know much but would this point to an engine problem?

If you notice any possible faults with your car that you think may be the culprit let me know and I'll check the relevant part on my car...

Was thinking about replacing the gearbox mount?
However this does not look that worn
Have you got a tip or manual?
I have Tip,
I wonder if the problem is gearbox related?

HI ALL
Had a similar problem with mine and it was the inner cv that had gone,hopefully itwont be as the part can only be bought from mitsubisi cost £384 and takes 6 weeks to arrive.
jack the car up look underneath on both sides for excessive grease and a tear in the rubber gaitor if not found brilliant.

SYMTOMS YOU WOULD GET IS,IT WOULD BE FINE UNTIL 55-60 THEN YOU WOUL GET A SHUDDERING,ACCELERATE MORE AND IT WOULD GO AWAY TO START WITH,GIVES YOU THE INDICATIONS OF TRACKING,WHEEL BALANCING PROBLEMS BUT IS STILL DRIVEABLE.JACK UP THE CAR AND PUT ON STANDS,SLIDE UNDERNEATH AND LOOK AT THE RUBBER COVER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CV JOINT FIRST,YOUR LOOKING FOR A SPLIT AND THE AREA AROUND IT WILL BE CAKED WITH GREASE.DO THE SAME ON THE OTHER SIDE,NOTHING FOUND ACE.IF UNLUCKY IT IS A CUP JOINT AND AT THE END OF THE DRIVE SHAFT IS A CASING WITH WEIRED SHAPE BALL BEARINGS IN,AFTER THE RUBBER OUTER CV GOES THE GREASE LEAKS OUT,THUS THE BEARINGS ROTATES IN A DRY SOCKET,WHICH THEN CHURNS THEM INTO SMALL PIECES(OUTCOME AN EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE).
NOTE:1 THE CUP IS NOT INTERCHANGABLE BETWEEN THE GR AND GPX,BUT THE BEARINGS INSIDE ARE)
NOTE:2 CHEAPER FIX GET THE INNER CV JOINT FROM A SCRAPPED CAR,CLEAN IT UP,THER SHOULD BE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT,OUTER CV KIT AROUND £10 FROM CAMSKILL.
THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR OVER TIME OR HITING A KERB QUITE HARD.
