belt noise??

Postby Mr Miyagi » Wed Oct 27, 2004 11:08 am

when i'm driving on country roads if i go through a big lough of water too fast, the lights go dim, then a screeching noise and the lights come back. i don't know too much about cars  and was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas what this might be. the screeching noise sounds like a loose belt!
any help would be great, i just wnt to make sure it's not anything too serious :?

It could be your alternator belt slipping, push down on it check the tension (IIRC shouldn't be more than 1cm play in the belt). If you're unsure yourself, any mechanic will be able to check it out for you quite easily.

I used to have the exact same problem took a mechanic about 5 minutes to adjust the alternator belt.

Slow down through them puddles though!
