Changing front brake pads FTO GR Auto

Postby MadMax » Mon Sep 20, 2004 11:43 am

I was changing the front brake pads on my FTO GR Auto on the weekend and had to abandon it because I was unable to move the pot back using a G clamp, the G clamp broke. Is there anything missing or should I just loosen the brake line and push the pot back.

Provided the G-clamp is big enough you should have no problem. Try loosening the lid on the brake fluid resevoir (watch out for overflow though).

I had the lid off the brake fluid reservoir, and it made no difference. There seems to be a lot of resistance for the pot to go back.

If the clamp broke during the process, its not up to much, any decent medium duty 10/12" G-clamp should be able to do the business. While I the piston probaly hasn't seized (it was obviously working previously), it may just need a bit more force to push back in.

The 4” G clamp was very bad, cheap. I’ll try a decent one this weekend. Thanks.

I used a new good 6” G clamp and the pots moved no problem. I usually don’t like to blame the tools but in this case I can. :D
