Wanted- Alloys

Postby CByrne » Tue Jun 07, 2005 11:51 am

Hey All

Looking for a decent set of 17inch alloys, with tyres pref.
Ideally 5 spoke and in very good nick, but will consider anything.

Otherwise I'll be splashing out half my pay cheque on Saturday on a new set, would love to save a bit on the side for an ITG filter and some other goodies......

Anyone knows of anything out there, feel free to reply or pm me.

Cheers
Colm.

Its a tough ask - to get a decent set of second-hand 17 inch 5 X 114.3 FTO alloys with the correct bore and offset.

The majority of 17's for sale on the Buy&Sell won't be suitable.

You may have to bite the bullet and buy a new set if you want them in the shortterm. At least you'll get what you want.

You should be able to sell the old set handy enough though - It may help ease the pain of the price of the new set.

Not if you are rolling on 15" steel rims though!

Well no - I don't see anyone buying those off you. Though I could do with a set next week when my 17's go in for powder coating - don't fancy leaving the car on axel stands.

Theres a point, (perhaps a split topic) but if anyone wants some scuffed up 16 Mitsi Alloys, and some very badly worn tyres, be happy to take any offers!
Once O get my own alloys that is.....

When I got my FTO I found it very hard to get alloys for it (second hand) so what I did was went into a few garges who had FTOs with nice 17'' wheels and I did a cash swap for the original wheels for the new ones. COst me about 600 euro but got a set of alloys worth double that. Garages will see you anything for cash, especially smaller one man bands!

You could powder coat the 16's - black or chrome for €200 - this would clean them up nice - its not really about the size of the wheels on an FTO - its the gap between the tyres and the arch that matters - 16's on a lowered car will always look better than 17's on standard spring settings.

Colm,
Sorry just re-read your thread in the general forum. which says 15" alloys,

Theres a point, (perhaps a split topic) but if anyone wants some scuffed up 16 Mitsi Alloys,

Are they 15's or 16's? 15's would obviously be non-standard......
If it's a set of standard 16" mitsi alloys them I'm sure you'd find a buyer.

Give us a bell when the work is done, I'd like to see the 'new' wheels.

Yeah Mustang was a typo in the earlier thread, they are the 16's alright. They need a bit of attention though, the previous lady owner had a bit of difficulty parking it against kerbs it would seem

:) Careful now, You could be starting a battle of the sexes/ driving ability debate  I remember going to look at an fto when i was in the market, one particular car had the worst case of kerbed alloys I have even seen, on any car, (as it happens it was a lady owner as well :) )

Having said that though, I was very happy to be buying it off a lady owner. (as I'm sure most of us would be!) Other than the scuff marks on the alloys, it was in pretty good nick and hadnt been pushed to its limits, as some of us boys tend to do sometimes.........

I can only speak for my girlfriend I guess, who judges how close she is to the kerb by the level of sound of her hubcaps scraping.....
