Success!

The heating is fixed now :) took me about 3 hours to do, trickiest part was removing the cooler unit as a wee pokey out bit from the dash was in the way :) Managed to take the bad pipe off without taking the matix out

Just want to say a huge thanks for the advice people! Took a few photos, thanks!

Deadly, keep an eye on the coolant level and footwell. It's possible that the reason it broke was an attelpted removal.

That's really good news. If you get a fish smell, don't drive. It can become a bit overwhelming as one forum member recently experienced.

Yes :(

Well, you did claim it was the heater matrix, but cider has been known to create some nasty after burn.

When I was removing the part that connected to the cooler (the bit in the engine bay) there was a hissssss noise ... like gas being released? How can I check the coolant level?

Thanks

The coolant cap is easily spotted in the engine bay and should only be removed when the engine is cold. It has a warning on the cap. You should be able to see the coolant, but if you're talking about the refrigeration gas, you can buy a kit in Halfords to renew the gas for about €25-€30. You get €10 back when you return the canister. The kit comes with a pressure gauge, so you know how much to put in. The valve is on the far left of the engine compartment, about mid way from headlight to firewall. It is covered by a blue dust cap. You cant miss it.

I would suggest getting someone to look over the system for pressure levels and leaks, before buying that stuff in halfords, otherwise it's like pi$$ing into the wind...

Hi,

I have a new problem the heating is working hot & cold fine but it only blows out when it's turned up to maximum, if you tried to turn the power down it just stops ... Any ideas?

Thanks again, Scott

Sounds like a blown resistor pack.

Don't know if you can get a blue print part for it but if you can it shouldn't be any more than in or around the 60 euro mark. As bluemajor says though it probably is a mitsi stealership available part only.
Second hand maybe?

I could look around a few scrap yards and see what I can find, but i have no idea what the part looks like or where to find it? Any ideas? If not I'll need to contact the dealers :(

Think I've found the wee box, I can see a gold box held on with one screw and wires going on :) Just got to source the part now. Car is getting breaks checked over and then should be grand, the only problem I've noticed is the engine temperature gauge never changes when driving ( at all infact ) however the fan does come on ... Any ideas?

For the time being I'm driving something a little more retro, i've added some photos for you guys to have a wee look haha enjoy!

I would imagine that every fto breaking still has a resistor pack and this should be a small cost.

Also, for reference, to put photobucket images on this forum, you only have to select the image tag, which is shown when you hover over your images. Paste the image text to your post and the image will be shown here. Nice wagon there. They remind me of a very swollen delorian.

Hey people

I've removed this and replaced it with one from a 1999 FTO thats been lying for over a year however ... my heating is still only working on full power? Is this the resistor pack?

Thanks

New resistor pack shouldn't be any more than 50 or 60 bat blips and they can go very easily so it's better to replace with a New part.
