Its not really a bug but I noticed the time is 1 hour behind. I assume its because of the clocks going forward recently. Just thought I'd post as I'd noticed it :D

a question more than a suggestion... is there any way that when you log in it will just show posts sicne you last logged in???? at the moment any time i log in all "new posts" are all threads that i havent looked at before, and might be there from the last time i was online too.... does that make sense????

I find that really handy, especially with my dodgy internet... mind you, I read everything.
With the old site, if I was disconnected I wasn't sure what I had or had not read when I logged back in.

There's always the 'mark forums read' option on the index page (top right)?

There's a "View New Posts" button. it's very handy.

Hi CJ,

Just a quick one I noticed when posting embedded images. Using the max. size of 1024x768 recommended in http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2875&start=0, they were being truncated on the right i.e. 'sliding under' the Poster Profile panel. This wasn't an issue when the Poster Profile panel was on the left.

Max. width I could achieve without truncation was approx. 645. Maybe recommended image size should now be 640x480? Of course, embedded thumbnails are probably a better option.

Paddy.

They're not actually resized... just hidden under the panel on the right. Try right-click and 'view image' and you'll see what I mean

I'll look into a workaround for embedded images being cropped by the more 'slender' forum design and report back on my findings.

Hi CJ,

Just to clarify: I wasn't suggesting that this was a bug/error that needed a workaround. Just suggesting that the recommmended max. be amended to 640x480. I think this size is acceptable and that embedded thumbnails be encouraged.

You will of course remember the scenario before the forum was updated: Someone embeds an image of a ridiculous width. To read any posts on that page, one is forced to scroll from left to right. :smt078

The new format doesn't mess up the page width: the poster suffers... not the reader.

Personally, I wouldn't investigate too much. You're getting in to modifying CSS templates. It'll wreck your head  I use Firefox which is CSS compliant.
IE8: Don't know yet.
IE7: Mostly, but quirky.
IE6: Almost, but needs hacks
IE5:

Then you've got Opera, Safari, Chrome etc.

I've probably waved a red rag to a bull here

In my opinion, look on this as a feature. Change the recommended size of embedded images and don't wreck your head!

Regards,

Paddy.

...not to mention proposing an over-engineered solution to a benign problem ;)

The beauty of PHPBB is the community write modifications to address issues such as this. Heres an example of a potential solution:

I'll take a look at it when I get some time...

i wanted to edit/change my sig.

i got this message :

This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 255 character limit.
It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.

went back to the sig i had before without changing anything on it and still get the same text . had to cancel the process .
Thoughts?

I put restrictions in place to stop users using large signature images some time ago, its not a seamless setting and sometimes messes up on images within threshold. If I remove this than I have to police sig images manually

Your avatar is more important than a signature - spend time on that instead!

CJ I have a quick question, don't know if its down to the forum or my cookies or what, or if anyone else has the same issue, but sometimes, and its happening a bit more the last few days, you know when a sub-forum has the red tag to show theres an unread post in it? When I click into that sub-forum theres no topic with an unread post and I've clicked into all the posts and read them all so the red tag should be gone but it stays. Any ideas why that is or is it just my laptop playing tricks on me?
Thanks.

Least I'm not the only one so. It only happens sometimes as well to me, usually only once every 2 weeks. But today I have 4 topics that its showing up in, and the same yesterday. Its not a vital thing just annoying.
