VR4 Twin Turbo Conversion??

Postby Mitsubishi-Mental » Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:31 pm

Well lads

Whats the story with these? Does the engine drop straight in to the FTO

Anyone heard of them being done? Successful or not? I'd say its something different anyway :smt003

Obviously there will be major issues trying to hold the power down with the front wheel drive

Just wanna get people's thoughts and suggestions on such a conversion :smt023

Cheers lads

He's actually selling the engine at the moment.
I was in talks with a mechanic about converting mine to a VR4. A little bit more to it than you think. The engine bay has to be tilted slightly to get it all in. All the looms redone. That is all I can remember him listing. Alot of work in it but as easier than other conversion projects.

Seriously considering it.

4WD conversion won't be possible with the FTO floor plan. LSD and some stiff suspension and good brakes will have to suffice. You may need to put a slight bow in the rear wall of the engine bay to get the VR4 to fit.

Not that different actually. Lots of fellas in Oz have done it, a few in NZ, and a few in UK. Plenty of posts and walkthroughs about how to do it on their forums. In Ireland its rare, but one of the members on here was in the middle of doing one in Cork, (and possibly another member but not sure about that). Its something I plan for mine in the future as well. Definately the best way to get more power out the FTO if thats what you want.
Also like Shane said you might need to bow the firewall to get the engine in, unless its a VR-4 converted to single turbo, then it justs fits in. The single converted ones also reduce the protection required around the lines in the bay as one of the turbos practically sits on them when installed.

Thats interesting about where the turbo's sit. Maybe the Evo lump would be easier so, probably easier to source parts as well

Not terribly difficult getting parts for the Legnum - it shares some parts with other mitsis.

Give me a PM if you're looking for a Donor legnum.
