How many of us are left.....?

Postby Kace » Fri Feb 08, 2013 12:59 am

The forum activity seems to have died off significantly over the past year or so as I guess many people have now shed their FTOs and there seems to be preciuos few left on the road at all. Even on Donedeal etc. there are a good few sorry examples of cars that are laid up and left to pasture. It's not the easiest car to own these days with pricey tax, impossible insurance and high fuel costs. If you're doing any miles at all, an FTO just doesn't make sense.

Can we have a show of hands for those of us that still have an FTO on here and plan to hold on to it through 2013 (and maybe beyond).

Just curious....

I have my GX, I do plan to buy the skyline in June but may change my mind by then as there is absolutely nothing wrong with the car and I only have to look at the other cars in the car park in work and nothing is interesting at all, but the FTO is a shinning star in a sea of boring Euro boxes. I will be in something JDM over the next 5 years, be it the FTO or something else.

Still have mine too.
Given what I paid for it in 2007 selling just doesn't make any sense, I'd mothball it first.
Actually, taxing it just for the summer months might be the way to go given the ridiculous running costs these days.

Mine isn't going anywhere. I love it and have poured my heart, soul and wallet into it. Sure it's not the cheapest thing to run, but every time I see it, I feel proud to own it. I may well get something more "practical" but I do just fine in the FTO and will be keeping it even if I do get something else.

There is definitely less activity here. There's barely been a mention about the 10 year anniversary and its this month, but nothing's happening there.

I'm still active on here.
I did sell my FTO but one as I moved to the other side of the world.
If I didn't I would have kept it for a loooooong time.

I still drive mine daily. Kills me though.

Going forward, if insurance doesn't start coming down a bit I'll be insuring it as a classic and putting it off the road for 6 months around winter. Otherwise I'll have to put it off the road indefinitely.

I plan to keep it as a classic forever.

I plan to put the 97 fto i have on my classic policy.

How about the 94GR...you have that on the classic policy too?

That's a sweet looking 320D. A little tlc on the leather and it will be perfect. How much did she set you back? I have toyed with the idea of getting another 3 series, but would go for a saloon for hauling little people around.

Hi Gary,

Yea still have the 94 Gr, will be selling it soon when i put my 97 Gpx onto the classic policy.
I also have CJ's old GPX that i bought off Adrian a while back.
Just have to decide what im going to do with it.
Bmw needs a little clean inside and it would be mint, i have to say its a joy to drive and really economical.
Paid a little of 6000 for it.

Interesting, you're the 3rd owner after me, stick up a pic for old times sake, I'd be interested to see how she's looking these days.

Fair play to you. I don't think I would be around very long if I didn't own an fto.

Ottostreet is supposed to be selling the red gpx. I'm not sure if he is, or isn't though. I had the agreed sum and was ready to collect a week ago, but he said he needed it for a couple of more days while his VR was getting the t-belt done. I said I would take it if he delivered anytime that week and heard nothing back. It was supposed to be a gift for my brother-in-law :( I even ordered a replacement wiring harness for a cd player, which is useless now. But, maybe he is ready to sell it now. Personally, if i'm selling a car, I forget about the inconvenience of not having a car for a couple of days, but that's just me and I do live in Dublin.

Otto, whatever happened? It's like you fell off the face of the planet.

It was inevitable. Sure he was thinking if selling it even before I had my GPX, around the time Inwas breaking the 95GR I had. September 2011 if I remember right. It sure is quiet.

Happy 10 year anniversary FTO Ireland

Hi guys.
I'm still here. Don't get to post much but still look in a good bit.
Still have the red gx and the two white gpvr's.
I keep meaning to start a build thread for the one I stripped out. It a good bit away from standard now.
Pity the site seems to have gone quite.

Haven't been on the site for probably over a year I'd say, driving an octavia VRS diesel these days, 225bhp and 330ftlb of torque :)

Always tempted to get back into something nice again and very nearly bought my old zed but with age has come some sort of sense :(
