Mod: Split post away from thread originally posted in as this is of general relevance, and held little link to org. thread.

I wasn't aware of this till last night when I saw it on the late news.. Good job noone here drives on "Hero" or that kind of cheap rubbers.

I checked mine this morning and have the required E numbers alright. I think that it's probably the cheapest of the cheap that are without.

Camskill say everything they sell has E mark. AFAIK only the Chinese rubbish that will kill you are affected.
Even Triangle tyres, that are E Marked are dangerous.

I knew this was coming in, but didn't realise it was April 1st. After hearing the discussions on the Last Word, I decided to check my tyres. I've two Goodyear eagle F1 asymmetrics on the front, E marked (supplied from Camskill), and two Goodyear eagle F1 GSD3's on the back (which I think I bought locally here) -no E marking -that I can find anyway.
They have plenty of life left in them though, but NCT not due till 12/11 so no worries there.
I do need to buy 2 tyres for the GF's car -and will more than likely use camskill so I enquired about the E marking this morning

Can you please confirm what the 'E' marking status of your tyre product range, i.e. which makes and brands are, or are not E certified and branded

Typical lax Irish standards -road safety, financial regulation, politics, accountability etc, etc, etc. Sure it’ll be grand.

I was going to mention F1s previously - I remember a discussion on a UK forum in the same vein a year or so ago, apparently non-E marked F1s from Thailand and China were making there way in through the back door at the time...

All the more reason to make sure that everyone uses E-marked tyres then !!!

Maybe a stupid question but where and what does the 'E' mark look like? Is it actually the letter 'E' printed on the tyre? Or is it in the embossed name on the rubber?

There was a comment in todays Irish Times motoring section mentioning that Japanese tyres carrying the JIS quality mark could potentially pass the NCT check in the future if they get the go ahead from the UN Economic Commision for Europe, time will tell....

Any tyres we got on mine or my mothers Jap imports were rubbish despite being big-brand stuff.
