08 Corsa OPC

Postby Muad_dib77 » Mon Apr 21, 2008 11:13 am

What's the Verdict lads and lasses?

http://www.netcarshow.com/opel/2008-corsa_opc/

Personally I think it re-invents the term pocket-rocket.
and what's more is this: It's not a Clio! It's an Opel - so it's not shoddy build quality..

Had the pleasure of being a passenger in one the other day, woah!
Minimal turbol ag - I didn't detect any - plenty of poke in lower rev range - plenty of top end as well..

Seats are snugger than a snug thing
Buttons and Switches all feel nice and sturdy.

Suspension is firm but not hard

Looks wise - well - ok - maybe it's not so much a blokes car (NOI) but I'd certainly rather be seen in one of these yokes than in a Mini Cooper S..

What do you think?

I sat in one a couple of weeks ago - my wife bought a new Corsa. It looked great - but they had an 08 demo model Civic type S next to it for around 6 grand less. I'd prefer the Civic myself

Hmm - looks well for a hot hatch supermini however I have to say if I was in the market for a hot hatch I'd be more inclined towards the Astra OPC or a Focus ST etc

Ah yes - the Astra is nice as well..

Wouldn't quite fit in a pocket though.. :-)

I Like the Focus ST also a very nice car.. I just prefer Opels over Fords - not sure why..

Nice suggestions..

New addition to the family..

I can vouch for her - she's a CRACKER!

http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn42/muad_dib77/opc/

Weight 1203kg 192bhp ish. Power to Weight works out at about 160 pr ton..

Didn't realise quite how different it is from a standard corsa till I had a look underneath her..

Petrol tank has been shifted forward so it's approx under the center of the car.
There's nothing behind it - except the exhaust.

Not even a spare - instead it comes with an aircompressor and a can of tyre sealant.

Seats are super comfy

Turbo lag is minimal

Building up speed is effortless

Steering is sharp - powersteering is very active so steering is very light.

I love it.. Perfect little zippy around car..

Yup golf has gone :-) Wouldn't make sense to replace the FTO with a car that doesn't have more (MORE!!!) power.

I'm fairly confident that the opc is a close match though..

Nice one - would be very interested to have a good poke around.

This forum is turning into quite a general "performance" website.

We'll have to have a meet where we can bring along all the various machinery.

I agree - it would be great fun to have a good look around the various machinery.

Drove the Opel most of the weekend - fun little car, certainly has the power to overtake..

Just in case the link to photobucket is a bit gammy - here are the photos again..

Very nice - Did you read Autocar a couple of weeks back (16Apr edition)? -Corsa VXR (OPC here in Ireland) vs Renault Clio Cup vs Mini Cooper S vs MX5 etc - 10 car test in total - Corsa was the quickest around the track - Clio just pipped it overall - OPC in 2nd - good result considering how accomplished the Clio Cup is.

yeah I've heard many good things about the Clio as well - didn't test drive it based on the missuses preference for Germaness.

Actually test drove an rx8 when she spotted the opc sitting in the dealers showroom and promptly swooned over it. She didn't agree with the rx8 at all, just didn't like driving it - I thought it was a bit of fun, especially after I'd located the traction control button ;-) (it's to the left of the steering wheel in case you need to know)

The opel is currently on it's 3rd fill of each 45liters - 45liters stretches to approx 470km - and thats without bothering about the driving style.
That little 1.6 Turbo engine is pretty frugal for what it is.

what's more is I've yet to spot another one on the road - I've seen an Astra opc - but no Corsa yet.

The Astra has the 2.0l 240something unit.. must be nuts!

You better be bringing this to the meet.

Bf said he saw you a few weeks ago (and I did too) and you were up our (Silver Clio 172) hole and he couldn't understand how you were keeping up being in a corsa. Then it dawned on him :) It was just outside Kells and we were coming from Virginia. You turned off right somewhere, and we went straight.

He also says 'looks like you drove it into Halfords and all their bits stuck to it' He's only messing though. :D He says 'well wear'.

LOL - that's hillarious! :-) I might persuade the missus to drive it along to the meet... When you spotted it it would have been her driving :-)

We'll be moving out to that neck of the woods soon enough - so if you're around there might be more spottings :-)

Rimlick?? That sounds like far far away over the hill across the sea and all that :-)

Or is it slang for Limerick?

Congrats anyways - and sure we'll prolly meet at the meets :-)

Astra OPC comes in at just under 250bhp afaik - it has a 2l turboed engine - and is a bit of a beast apparently..
The Corsa is so much fun - but very easy to drive..

Yes, in a mystical land far away...

Thank you! Indeed you will, sure there seem to be loads of meet ups in Limerick.

And you're right on the BHP, 'nippy' apparently... :D
