08 Vectra SRi OilBurner

Postby Muad_dib77 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 9:43 pm

Picked up this for a daily driver on saturday..

Pls forgive me for not hosing off the travel durt before taking the pics, but my mate was using the powerhose (see background) and it looked like rain so I had to get the snaps done quickly.

Image

More pics here,
http://img94.imageshack.us/g/05042010554.jpg/

She's 2008 XP2 "150bhp" 6spd Dieseller.

According to the computer yoke in the dash she'll do approx 1060km to 60l of drink. Somewhat of an improvement on the 285mls I was getting in the Leggy (297 at a stretch!)

She's not eactly what you'd call lightning quick off the mark, but she's a very capable cruiser. Collected her in a village outside Exeter, Drove to Liverpool, then Halifax & Back to Liverpool - and then Via Holyhead to Ardee (well - near Ardee) and all that on less than a tank!

The previous owner was what some might call attentive to detail - there isn't a scratch on alloys or body work, nothing. 100% clean - and I mean that - there isn't even a stone chip! I thought I found one when I was viewing the car and he looked paniccy for a bit.. looked all intense..ran his finger over it..and took it off with a nail.. "Bird poo! - sorry about that."

I had arrived fully intending to continue pushing the price down, further than I'd done over the phone - but I couldn't fault it.
Serviced - Valeted - Warranted and the pics I'd seen really didnt do it justice at all.

I know it's a practical car - but - I still love it!

Feel free to comment..likes/dont likes..

Whats more - thanks to Rory and the bumper I picked up in Halifax I'll be able to get the FTO back in roadworthy condition sooner than I thought!

Well wear Janus, looks in great nick. What does the SRi badge give you over a stock Vectra? Are those wheels SRi issue?

Thanks cj,

I'm actually not 100% sure what the difference is as I've seen some very different specs.. I THINK these are the differences (on the exterior pack 2 variants anyways)

Front Fogs
Adaptive Lighting (possibly an option)
Color Screen in Dash, Disc Based SatNav
Sports seats (Cloth, Not leather)
Leather Steeringwheel
Leather gearknob
vxr sideskirts
vxr bumpers (not sure just how much of a difference there is on the front, but the rear has a lip added on)
rear spoiler
optional rieger (?) front grille
Stiffer and lower suspension (stiffer than the Lexarse, but not so stiff that it's uncomfortable on the backroads - even with 19" wheels and profile 35 continentals)
6 spd gearbox (it's possible that this is in all the diesels, dont think ti's in the basic petrols though)
Cruise Control
Bluetooth (Still havent figured out how to get the menu up on the Radio)

I would have considered an "Exclusive" variant as well, but because of the leather seats (I guess) VRT is much much higher on them than on the SRi..really odd..

Am getting one of those DTUK "chips", should arrive next week. Apparently they make a big difference..

http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/veh ... dti-150-ps

according to their own statements they'll up the torque from 320 to 430 and ps from 150 to around the 200mark. So I'm looking forward to trying that. :-)

Well wear Janus - I guess you went with the Vectra to keep it "family" (GF's Corsa OPC).

I like the kit and the rims - not so gone on the front grill - a VXR grill would have done more for me.

Other than that shes a nice looking bus - drove these several times as hire cars and they're a solid drive though knowing you I imagine you'll get bored soon enough.

Thanks a mill guys..

Am chuffed to bits..

Shane ->

You found my sore spot there - I wasn't gone on the grill at all when I saw the pictures of it 1st.. In fact I nearly had a replacement ordered before I'd bought the car. (stupid that).
But when I saw it in real life I was won over ..it's different..

Being a larger car it has some, shall we say, different cornering properties.
You're right - it's not the most thrilling of drives - but - I spend about a 1/4 of the fuel I normally go through on my return trip to work... a 1/4!! it's nuts..

Getting the LSD and the replacement starter for the FTO tomorrow so should be able to have a bit of crack soon enough.

Seb ->

The red/pink Laguna thankfully isn't mine..
And as for the other two..well the Legnum is going away, hopefully soon.. so it'll be slightly less eyesore-ish..

had an Astra Sxi sporthatch thingy for a while last year and I couldn't figure the bluetooth thing out either. even after reading the manual - and I'm usually pretty good that way.
Best of luck getting to the bottom of it :)

nice car!

Thanks .. Been reading the manual as well but it's written in several variations of gibberish..it's literally gobbletigook..
Meh.. there must be others who had the same issues...

To the forums :-)

That's what I thought. Are you planning a remap fairly significant gains to be had.

Edit: Link doesn't quite work, figures are +25bhp and +50Nm... That'll get you to your sales meeeting on time :smt002

According to the ROS.ie site I'll get 159 co2s .. so not in the mega cheap tax bracket... (car is apparently actually 157co2s, but still same tax band).. 4hundredandsomething

I have a dtuk box on the way in the post.. apparently I'll see about 200ps and 400torques.. I doubt I'll see that but.. hey..

Whatever about that power figure theres no way you'll see anything like 400Ibft torque and if you had your block wouldn't last past the first couple of launches.

meh..

peeps over across the water are going on about them, so they cant be all bad..

More is better..as long as it doesn't have too much of an impact on the economy, bet it wont do it any favors though..If it gets too crappy the box comes off and goes on eBay..

I'd be more worried about the dual mass flywheel holding up

again..

meh

loads of others are chipping their diesels and not having any issues..am not worried..sure if I was going for nutty crazy death mega über felt power then I'd need to look into things like box, flywheel, all the other innards..

I'm under no illusion that it'll ever be a rocket, and it isn't intended as such either. Sure look at it.. It's a big yoke of a thing.

I drive it approx 2 hours a day and I want to to be a nice place to be, and I'd like it to have a bit more oomph to it.

Your concerns are appreciated tho..

Friend has an Astra SRI (?) 150hp diesel, TBH I was expecting it to be a rocket but the power delivery wasn't great. I'd assume any remap would sort that even if you didn't get big hp.

Maud did not quote a unit -instead he opted for the hugely annoying approach that Clarkson introduced of using the fantasy unit of 'torques'.

My car does 2000 velocities by the way, and will produce 450 powers.

Back on topic, I am dubious of the claims made of those tuning boxes. They are supposed to be good at producing black smoke if not necessarily decent power and torque improvements. I think a proper remap might be a better plan.

Heh.. yeah I couldn't remember the unit... but their site said 400 of somethings..

http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/veh ... dti-150-ps

I actually remembered it wrong..

it was 430 torques..

But Dave was right it's NM and not foot pounds.. it's all greek really..

I'm guessing anyways that the figures are based on a theoretical best case scenario and all that..
