Mini Cooper S

Postby Muad_dib77 » Sun Jul 16, 2006 10:30 pm

So yeah - in the estate I live there's a few nutters..

One Guy with a Skyline Turbo, used to drive a Cosworth.. Great taste in cars..
Another guy just moved in with what looks like an old EVO (didn't get to have a closer look yet) also he has an older Subaru Estate sitting in the drive - Looks like a Legacy..
I'd expect these lads to drive like nutters..just bacause I've heard their cars drive in and out of the estate...

I've noticed a lad a couple of houses down bought himself a lovely little Mini Cooper S. Today I saw what it can do..

DAMN!

I had my foot welded to the floor in 2nd - changed up to 3rd..and he kept up..Sadly there was a turn so I had to take my foot off, but at this stage we were well over the recommended speed on the closed circuit..

I haven't had the pleasure of driving one of these little lovelies yet - but if any of you have what are your thoughts?

I had a little chase sequence one time with an S. Very quick machine alright - a guy kept up with me as I hammered through gears hitting 8.5k on the rev counter for each one. When I hit a motorway I finally had to pull over and let the guy by me as my jalopy was limited to 118mph (or whatever it is) and he seemed to have bags more to go !!

The Cooper S is a much quicker car than people realise - we test drove one as the missus is thinking of getting one - very fast in a straight line and round bends.

Spec doesn't look overly impressive - but I suppose it's just a small wee thing..It definately shifts...

some site I found using google wrote:MINI Cooper S: 1,598cc supercharged chain cam petrol: 120kW (163bhp) at 6,000rpm/210Nm (155 lb ft) torque at 4,000rpm.

I wonder what the FTO'd be like with a supercharger?

It ain't that small in the weight dept - its 1215kg which is only 25kg lighter than a GPX, its get to 60 in 7.2 secs which is impressive enough even for a supercharged 1.6, that said, the GPX should beat it to the line (...enter MfFTO ;))

Very very thirsty I'd say.. I'm lucky if I get 500km on a tankful these days.. usually I'm actually closer to 4 than 500..

Would probably be great for power...but where would u stick it?? Not an awful lot of extra room in the engine-bay..

I'm guessing it'd be a lot of fun... :-)

Quick car - drove one of these when looking around for a car for the GF - don't think I'd be able to drive one as an everyday car - As a guy you'd have NO respect from other road users.

Oh - yeah - my GPX Manual IS quicker!
