Green Flashing N and jump?

Postby surfco87 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 5:50 pm

Hi people my names mojo and i just bought my FTO (GR) yesterday.

I gotta say im f***cking love this car but allready its giving me problems

When im driving dwn chilling abt 30-35mph some times randomly the revs suddlny race up and then the whole car jumps( like you going a small speed bump) and sticks in 3rd with a green flashing N. If i change it to tip's then i can select between 2nd and 3rd but again when i stop at a red light or stop in general in neutral, put my foot brake dwn and select D again the car jumps and then drives off normally.

I dont get it truthfully i am pissed because this is like my childhood dream car and its pi****sing all over me.

any any one help me out

thank you in advance

Mojo

And

Obviously the seller knew about this problem. I'd be upset.

Not good news I'm afraid, a member on here had that problem straight after he bought his FTO a few years ago, see thread here; http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7883, turned out the gearbox was on the way out and had to be replaced.
Replace the gearbox oil and filter first though to see if that makes a difference.

As already stated check fluid and replace along with filter.
Dont know about the flashing on instrument panel but low fluid can cause erratic/uneven gear changes particularly when moving off from standstill.
Id a similar problem in my leggy vr4 which has similar Tip box and it was just low gear oil.
The ONLY 95GR in shocking red with these specific faults.

Theres no doubt the seller knew about this issue when he sold you the FTO. Was this not apparent on the test drive?

Where did you buy FTO?

Pics?

He said there was no problem on the test drive, or on the drive home. It's shameful when people sell cars knowingly with problems. The guy will either deny the problem existed, or say it was sold as seen, reflecting the price.

Its very disheartening being sold a knowingly damaged car but unfortunately if the previous owner denies any knowledge of faults previous to sale you haven't really got a leg to stand on aside from the court route. If its sold as seen you've even less.
Im open to correction here but AFAIK its an offence to sell a car knowing its unroadworthy.
If it turns out it is serious do try approaching the bloke who sold it as it may have been a genuine mistake.

If "N" is flashing then the ECU has stored a fault code. Run a diagnostic and it will flash out the codes for you. search on this site for procedure to flash ot the codes, really simple.
