Air Con Belt Tensioner

Postby steelroe » Tue Dec 16, 2003 1:31 pm

Just received my new belt tensioner (Pulley) and on checking the play in the old one compared to the new I found a hugh difference. I am now convinced that this is causing the belt to shred at high RPM i.e a small amount of play at low RPM is greatly increased at high RPM.

A warning to all you guys out there check this ASAP to avoid the misery of having to remove everything to repair the crankshaftsensor wires after the belts break.

Rory - this is the pulley you sent me recently right (+aircon unit) ?

I haven't had any pulley at all since I got the car !! Sounds like I have been lucky.

When you say you got a new one, does that mean that they wear out ?

Kace,
The proper belt will not stay on without the tensioner. It is beyond me how your car could be running without the tensioner as the belt is extremely slack without it. Unless someone got a shorter belt and forced it into place. I sent you the aircon pulley alright.
