Removing Original Spoiler

Postby RatherBeDean » Tue Nov 05, 2013 6:43 pm

Hey guys, does anyone here have experience removing the original spoiler?

Any tips to making a nice clean hole in the boot and filling it easily?

It's easy to remove the spoiler. A couple of nuts on the underside need undoing and the spoiler pops right off.

If you are going without a spoiler, you can fill the holes with blanking plugs, or do it right and get them filled and sprayed.

If putting a different spoiler on, you should get away with filling holes, but you may need to drill a couple more. Make a punch mark in the relevant areas, drill with small steel bit and then drill with the correct size. Treat exposed metal with anti rust treatment paint. Install new spoiler.

My personal choice is the original spoiler. It matches my mini FTO too :)

Thank you very much for your help.

I'm thinking of going spoilerless FYI, as I think it looks very well that way.

I do agree though that the original spoiler is the best choice. Unfortunately mine is faded beyond recognition (engaging in a bit of a restoration job with my FTO)

No prob.

I would say it's best to get it resprayed. Or do what I did and have both. I have a spoiler-free boot lid and I also have an OE spoiler lid.

I'm thinking of having her wrapped in matt black vinyl, reckon that would seal up the blanking plugs enough to negate the need to fill the holes properly?

Vinyl covering? I suppose it would be ok ok over plugs. But they will be seen as bumps under the vinyl.

If your going to vinyl wrap the boot lid to cover the holes they will still need to be welded up or filled at least.
