Temporary (ONE DAY) Insurance

Postby McGra_FTO » Wed Oct 28, 2015 1:52 am

Hi, I'm Rory and I'm new to the forum. Going to collect my FTO from a dealership in Dublin on Tuesday.. however, I am from the north and will need temporary insurance in order to drive it home. The reason why I cannot just swap my policy over from my current car is because it will take approximately 3 weeks for me to register the car in Northern Ireland and I need my current car for work in the meantime.

So does anybody know of any temporary insurance companies?

Thanks, Rory!

Hi Rory, welcome to the forum.
Is transferring your insurance for one day not an option?

Hi Bernard, apologies for the late reply! I have spoken to my insurance company and they have said it is not an option to swap the insurance for one day as the car is still registered in the south :(

That's unfortunate.
I picked my car up in the UK and had no trouble transferring insurance for the day, so I suppose it depends on who you're with/your policy.

Would probably work out cheaper to get it transported up after viewing . I doubt many southern companies will be on for what you are looking for and if anyone does oblige I can see it being crazy money . Plenty of trusted guys on other Irish forums would be willing to help with transport reasonably are you far across the border ?
