BMW X5 3.0D and 3.0i

Postby adrian » Fri Aug 17, 2007 9:16 am

Hey all,

Anyone ever had one? How reliable are these motors... from around the 2001 and 2002 era? THINKING about thinking about thinking about selling the Hilux for one.

Opinions and experiences if you can...

Cheers

A

I love the X5... its big pimping.. not sure on the new model however.
I've heard the 3 litre diesal is a very nice model, bags of torque and plenty of reliability. This is based on a 2003 X5 3L diesal.

I like the X5 - but there are too many knobs driving them so I'm not going to add to that list!

My missus will be in the market for a jeep soonish and I quite like the look of the Murano - Detuned version of the 3.5 V6 in the Zed (still has 231bhp though) and it looks and handles well. They can now be had for mid 30K - wait a few months and they'll drop below 30K. If 3.5V6 is too big an engine for you then you could import a Jap 2.5 version.

I HATE X5s.... theyre supposed to be jeeps right? As in the odd off-road trip? Good luck going off road in a BMW jeep! Pure and utter snob cars (IMO)....

If you're thinking of petrol SUV's, consider the Lexus RX300, better image than the BM. Love the Murano too by the way.

Saw one of those Infinitis in Paris in June, and it looks great in the flesh

Stereotyped? I wouldn't give a bollix what people said if I was driving around in one of those yokes to be honest. Stuff like that doesn't bother me...

BMW x series.. don't care for them.. don't see the point in them..
They farmers cars - but they dont work in a field..

I just don't agree with them ..

If a car looks like a 4x4 I believe it should have the ability to go off road - of have some sort of amour on it..

The Murano looks alright - didn't see or read any reviews and haven't seen it in the flesh so I can't form an opinion on it..

I do like the Pajero Evolution that PajEvo drives - I love the lunacy of it..

"Lets take a 4x4 and make it mental"

BMW seems to have been more;

"Let's take an executive cruiser and put some bigger wheels on it".

Apologies for rant..

I'd be a combination of worried and strangely excited.
