Car history?

Postby holio » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:02 pm

Had a look but couldnt see any threads about peoples car history so thought id start one.
My history
1: 01 1.4 toyota corolla liftback. 1st car so spent my weekly wage in halfords buying lights and other silly add-ons. Actually landed me in court over all the silly add-ons.
2: 99 1.8 Alfa 156, lasted a whole 3months before engine gave up.
3: 95 1.3 Toyota corolla turbo with the amazing little 3 speed auto box. Greatest built car ever!!!
4: 00 1.8 Land Rover Freelander.
5: 01 1.6 Audi A3
6: 96 2.5 TT Mitsubishi legnum vr4 (robbed after 3weeks of ownership)
7: 93 2.2 V-Tech Honda prelude
8: 06 2.6 Mercedes E270 estate (company car)
9: 95 3.2 BMW M3 (sold after 2months of ownership)
10: 96 2.5 TT Mitsubishi legnum vr4 (Robbed after 2ish months, never found, never got insurance payout)
11: 96 2.5ish BMW 323 (installed a slightly bigger engine after a year)
12: 08 1.6 Diesel Ford Focus (company car)
13: 95 2.0 Mitsubishi FTO GX I think.

I know im missing two or three cars but that mostly the gist of it. A few of them were owned while i had other cars.
The ONLY 95GR in shocking red with these specific faults.

In not exactly perfect order

92 Ford Fiesta 1.1 l (2000) meh
00 Fiat punto sporting (2000) first new car. Drove the hole out of it
00 Alfa 146 1.4 junior (2001) hateful badly built junk that I thought was class
99 Fiat Brava 1.6 HLX (2002) put up serious miles, went through 3 gearboxes
Every Toyota model built between 2003 and 2009
95 FTO GPX (2007) the blue one, awful 18 inch wheels
95 FTO GPX (2008) the silver one, loved that one
95 Mitsubishi Shogun 2.8 (2009) Silly idea, drank diesel, great during the snow
00 citroen xsara vsx (2010) awful yoke that ate release bearings, sold it to my neighbour...
01 Toyota Avensis 2.0d (2010) horrid dull joyless machine that is epic on diesel and just won't break, ever. Bought it for the sole purpose of selling on again but hung onto it unwittingly.
Waiting or it to explode so I can get something else. This seems unlikely.

There's others in there, they're just very dull.

You gotta love the alfa's.
Ha ha who can honestly NOT put up their hand to driving an Alfa while cautiously listening out for funny sounds or looking in the rear view mirror expecting to see a mysterious cloud of smoke.

The windows used to close outside the door frame. Hilarious stuff on a 1 year old car.

The cd player would also melt your cds if you left them in too long too.

I have a terrible car history.

--DK--
1st car - 1988 Daihatsu Charade 1.0l (3cyl) with SPORTS exhaust.
2nd car - 1983 Mazda 626 1.6lx (4speed - blue velour interior! - top speed 180kmph downhill! - wobbly as jello) - starter, exhaust & radiator went within two months of purchase. Piece of crap car. At the time - I believed it to be pimpin'!

--IRL--
3rd car - 1991 Daihatsu Charade 1.3l (Saloon - All electrics)

Radiator went going home from CC one night - steam everywhere.
Used to call it "the white wonder" cause I wondered how it was still driving.
Bought it for 700 - drove it for 1.5years or so - sold it for 350. Only changed the brakes and the oil on her.. CV joint was bust in one side. Very fun car to drive - doing 90kmph felt like you was doing 140..great!

4th car - 1998 Civic Saloon 1.5 lsi (Vtec) My first really nice car - I did love it - very sensible choice - had the space for all my DJ gear in the back. Still fast enough to get me home from work in time for coronation street.. Cornered like a pudding though.

5th car - My beloved 1995 GPX.. Drives like a dream, drinks like a sailor - and shouts like one too.. :-) Looks a bit like a mud-wrestlers car at the moment.

--- If you want a cheap car, that can be fixed with a hammer, bag of rusty nails, spit & gum.. Get yerself an old banger of a Charade..god they're crappy little cars - but they stay going!

If you want something that keeps breaking and you'll need to fix ALL the time. Get yourself a crappy 626! It doesn't look nice, it doesn't go very fast. I uses a lot of petrol, it makes you drive like a pensioner.. Everything is wrong with them.

To that I'll add..

96 Legnum Vr4
01 Lexus is200 (wasn't mine but I did have a lend of it for just over 6months) Dullest car ever...
08 Vectra SRi 1.9cdti 150

What I can remember is the following. For a long time limited by insurance, up until the GPX. Since then its been fun, sensible, fun, sensible.

1995 Peugeot 306 (First  )
1992 Toyota Corolla (Never a fault)
1994 Toyota Starlet (In between car)
1998 VW Golf (Nice solid car)
1994 Mazda MX-3 (First time pulled for speeding)
1994 BMW 316 (First of many, first import)
BMW 316 (Another import)
Peugeot 306 (Borrowed. Diesel, 'nuf said!)
1996 Mitsubishi FTO GS (One of my favourites ever. First car I modded)
1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX (Great fun)
1998 BMW 316 (Temp, part exchange)
2001 BMW 320d (First decent oil burner, great long distance driver)
2000 Honda S2000 (Best car yet, without question)
2006 Audi A4 (Great solid car, will probably keep til new year)

Sadder still (don't judge me!), I had worked out the power of each and graphed the progression...

Next one is due to be an exciting prospect, but we'll have to see. :?

Ha ha whole hearthadly agree.
Drove a mates 318 compact just before i bought my 3series. Loved it but way under powered.
Kinda thought the 2.5 litre was even lacking in lower gears.
Great on motorways, pull onto a motorway doing 30 in 5th and there was no need to change down a gear, bury the throttle and you were sailing past cars in no time.
